What I really want to see is a chart of long covid cases over time. That shit scares me magnitudes more then short covid

I'm currently sick (mild cough and body aches), but I had a negative COVID test. Weird.
I mean other illnesses and the common cold do still exist...
Really? Who woulda thought.
I mean you are the one who said it was weird...
We're commenting on an article about COVID occurrences being high. Ironically I'm sick but it's not COVID, despite higher chance of it being COVID. That's all I'm saying.
Might not be covid. But, also, a negative result is no longer a guarantee that it isn't covid, unfortunately.
Just got it for the first time. I forgot to mask when I went to the airport.
This is my first "recovered" day from having Covid for the first time as well. We luckily had tests left over from when the government gave out free ones so I could confirm what I had. My partner had it first and we thought it was just a mild cold, they work in another county and everyone there is sick as well. Then our family member who works in a different county also got sick from a co-worker. No one is wearing masks, isolating, taking any type of precaution (I did since I was the last one to get sick and didn't want to spread it further) so it's just sweeping through everywhere.
My head and body still feel fucked up but the congestion and fever have gone away. Was nice for the Lemmy-time the past week or so but glad to be able to leave the house again and will be more cautious about it all now (it's summer and it's only going to get worse come winter).
I hope you feel better soon! If you’d like advice from a random internet stranger, be sure to rest way more than you think you need to for a few weeks. Some studies have found an association between long COVID and exertion while sick.
do you by chance have any articles or studies you could link that you've ran across. I tried with google but there's a lot of articles out there that promote exercise. I was told "not to rest too much" by a relative who heard it from a friend who is an anesthesiologist but I didn't follow that advice and instead rested as much as possible. My relative who refused to rest is 3 weeks out from their illness and are still has chest congestion and fatigue so it feels like important information to get to them.
Here’s a Time article: https://time.com/6215346/covid-19-rest-helps/
I hope you can convince your relative to slow down and rest!
thank you kind internet stranger. i've been taking it easy and resting a bunch.
How? Nobody’s testing anymore. Hospitalization and wastewater testing will only get you so far.
It does say right below the headline “wastewater data shows” so it seems that’s the metric. It also says that’s the best metric they have available right now.
I test. Its incorrect to say that nobody is testing. That's a false statement.
I am nobody and I test, their statement is true
It's spreading so fast in my area that people are actually testing again just so they know what they're dealing with
I thought wastewater was the most reliable, can't hide shit.
But a lot of places have stopped even that.
Pharmacies and doctors see the cases.
