They don’t seem to be doing well on streaming either.

I’m still salty that Peacock cancelled The Amber Ruffin Show.

Same! It was great!

Broadcast TV is losing all relevancy. At 70 i now rarely watch any network TV at all.

You're 70 and know about lemmy? Do you work in the tech industry?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

maybe not in america but in the rest of the world, sure.

[–] [email protected] 12 points 3 months ago

Dude, there definitely won't be. We've known that for a while now. And it won't take as long as 10 years.

I stopped watching late night talk shows when they fucked over Conan

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I stopped watching once Carson took over. Way too goddamn self referential! Bring back Paar!

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Jack Paar was just a Wish.com Jack Benny. Now Jack Benny--there was a man who knew how to crack wise!

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Wow the only noun I recognise here is "man"

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

Jack Benny was a real cracker jack wag, see!? The man was a huckleberry above persimmons!

Will network TV even exist in ten years? I imagine the boomers are holding the fort right now.

I wish the US would adopt the UK quiz-show format. It’s like late night rv except it’s like 4-5 funny people on a rotating panel doing the show instead of one dude.

Those shows are a product of deeper cultural differences than it seems at first , in that they're not conducive to fanning the egos of celebs.

I'd take 8 out of 10 cats any day of the week

[–] [email protected] 5 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I just discovered them! And countdown! Please someone make this happen

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Countdown is sp good too!

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

Never agreed with anything more in my life.

I wanted a US Taskmaster run by Conan and Jordan Schlansky ...

You have a favourite season?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago

I do, but it's been a second since I've watched it to remember. I think it was 2 or 3. All five contestants were fun and their interactions were funny

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago

I wish. Maybe we should start one, ya?

America needs 8 out of 10 Cats!

Taylor Tomlinson's show, at Midnight is trying for it

[–] [email protected] 9 points 3 months ago (1 children)

When I first heard about the show I was fairly dismissive. Had no clue who she was.

Now I watch almost every night (even reruns). Taylor is such an awesome host. The guests are great. The show is non stop absurdity in the best way.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I like her comedy, but as a host, she laughs at shit that's just not funny to be nice, I guess. It would be better if she didn't laugh and give points, and instead challenged the panelists to do better. I realize that might not be the best strategy to attract guests, but if the roast battles can keep finding people, hopefully this show could too if the guests realized they needed to bring it, or get flamed

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I was actually super sceptical of both her and the show in general. I was a big fan of the original and wasn't too sure about being on a "network" instead of on something like Comedy Central or someplace where they could be a little more risque.

But I was pleasantly surprised that CBS is allowing them to be a lot more blue than I thought they would. And Taylor Tomlilnson is ridiculously charming. I had never seen her in anything before and I gotta say, I unironically adore her. (get your mind out of the gutter...I'm old enough to be her father)

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Just to be clear you're totally allowed to find someone of any gender or orientation charming without people questioning your motives :)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 months ago

Oh I know. But this is the internet after all...

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 months ago

She talks about laughing on some podcast but I can't remember which one. Anyway, she said that most comics don't really haha/laugh out loud at great jokes, but will simply say that's a great joke with approval. So being the host on tv she is having to train herself to laugh at loud at things. The show is scripted and the footage cut up post filming so some people/contestants are funnier but they couldn't air it or their words were tempered by the writers/editors. Here's one interview podcast with her and Conan https://youtu.be/qDkFXrS-P-8?si=t9MqFHltXbSm0ccG

Jimmy Kimmel retiring in 10 years, I guess.

It probably wasn't a good sign with they replaced Late Night with Reggie Watts' Band and some entitled cunt for a game show trivia format.

I think there will always be a place for 1 or 2 late night shows. Great hosts are few and far between but the best ones really are fun to watch.
