Booked Mickey in for his next set of vaccinations (I forgot to do it last year ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ’€) for next Monday, and booked myself in for a CT at 7:30AM!!

I hate myself for saying yes to such an early appointment ugh. UGH! UDHDHSJKSCIBNSOpa(";';'7#92+383!$@)0{ยฎ=โ‚ฌ}ยข

Get it over and done with while the day is young.

Miss Meow is booked in for her vaccinations next Monday too, it must be a good day for it! I don't imagine she'll be pleased about it though.

it has been a rough few weeks, team. I kinda wish I weren't off the booze, which means it's probably a good thing I am.

edit: before anyone's concerned, I've been off the booze all year, I'm just saying

[โ€“] [email protected] 9 points 2 months ago (1 children)

As an occasional drinker, I can vouch it make a bad time way worse to deal with. It's a momentary relief, a way to check-out of our brains, but doesn't solve anything. Not really.

You have made the correct choice and continue to do so! Despite it all, you are strong and awesome. A kind and beautiful person! (Just wanted to pass on some love ๐Ÿ’œ๐Ÿ˜)

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

oh, I'm so pleased I gave up. for me it was a sleep issue, but it has helped in so many other ways. I still drunk occasionally, but I absolutely notice it when I do

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Hugs mate.. Ikwym about the booze, I have days where I think "I'd have been blind by now if I still drank."

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

yup - giving up has been a great choice! mostly I don't miss it, but an extremely hard few weeks makes a glass of red in the bath sound very tempting. Here's a herbal tea cheers to you (or whatever your muddle aged person drunk of choice is!)

edit: drunk of choice was a totally appropriate typo so I'm leaving it

edit edit: props to you for giving up, for whatever your reasons were

[โ€“] [email protected] 7 points 2 months ago

Thanks! My drunk of choice is herbal or matcha tea actually. I gave up for a few different reasons, basically the kids, the money and the health. I'd been using it as a coping mechanism for too long when it wasn't working, the kids deserve to see better role modelling and every other adult person in their lives drinks so somebody has to not. I don't begrudge others a bevy though.

Good on you for not drinking when things are tough.. it's an easy way to end up with hard problems sometimes.

I love the local redistribution system of stuff we have here. I put out books yesterday, old beads n stuff in little bags, odd glassware, a decanter set I have never used and never will use. Today it is all gone.

It turns out roasted cauliflower goes really well with corned beef. Ate lots, am now officially stuffed.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

roast cauliflower is a surprisingly great meal in and of itself

My girlfriend has finished her first day of her final placement. It would be great if she got a job out of this. It's a more chill childcare centre because it gets direct government funding and it's a 5 minute walk from our place.

She could be out the door at 8 and home at 4. Unbelievable living for an outer suburb like this

I love being on a train through the city loop, and closing my eyes. I can feel the train take the turns in the loop, the slight sway and shift in my centre of gravity.

I imagine the train is going faster than it is, and I'm zooming through fantastical futuristic cities or alien landscapes or in space and it's like flying.

Making glacial progress on the readings... feeling very easily distracted... I technically have a sickie to last me from today to Wednesday (more for uni purposes), but I'd feel bad taking time off work and creating more work for my colleagues, when I'm actually well enough to work, after being sick for 2 weeks last month.

Maybe I could use it for Wednesday. Or at least ask to work from home on Wednesday. Time is crucial, this thing is due next Sunday and I want to finish a draft by this Friday. (I have also applied for an extension, but I refuse to let this drag - plus there are time sensitive components that need to get into motion soon)

Love is when you give your prized possession to the one you love.......๐ŸŽค and they have a great time.

Iโ€™ve been teaching Melbcat how to use a snuffle mat. Sheโ€™s been needing some hints such as me scratching at where I hid the treat and flipping the fabric up a little bit but sheโ€™s definitely got the idea. Sheโ€™s snaffled it a few times by biting at the hiding spot.

Iโ€™m even seeing some tentative paw boops and hoping it means sheโ€™ll learn to lift the flap.

(Sheโ€™s very bright and was a fantastic mouser until no longer allowed to hunt. Going after something immobile like a hidden treat is just not instinctive for a cat. And itโ€™s only been a few demos.)

[โ€“] [email protected] 6 points 2 months ago

Clever Melbcat! Tommy struggles to find treats even when they're right in front of him. It's lucky he's so pretty, because he's not the brightest.

My new drivers licence arrived! Relief. I've been waiting for that to submit my stuff to my new job's third party ID/police check company which I just did. Also pretty nice to have unexpired photo ID for the first time in three years.

Now I just need to hope they don't have an issue with the murders I've committed.

[โ€“] [email protected] 4 points 2 months ago

Nah, your evil twin did the murders. You're golden.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago

I've had the same licence photo for 13 years. The years have not been kind inbetween that and my passport photo that makes me look like a hardened criminal.

Playing an old LP I found of Adrian Boult conducting Vaughn Williams/Tallis. This is a much more orchestral version than Neville Mariner.

This music gives me Indy and the Last Crusade chills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=04wJKXn3opY

I tried my best. I hope I didn't let anybody down. The competition was ferocious tonight but I'm happy to come out with a silver medal in competitive....... gin rummy. ๐Ÿฅˆ ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡บ

Not a traditional birthday cake but we don't do traditional in this house

Iโ€™ve always admired your culinary expertise. You make it look so effortless.

This reminds me a bit of my grandfather's 80th birthday cake. Well you just try putting 80 candles on a cake, any cake. So Mum put a 75w light bulb in the middle and 5 candles around the edge. Grandpa didn't know whether to be amused or offended. And he was easily offended.

[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

That's genius. I feel like after 21 it doesn't really matter.

The kid got a candle stuck in a macaron and a speedy happy birthday song in the middle of Brunetti's. Her friends loved it.

Conveniently for me, I had a care team meeting earlier this Arvo, right after noticing the damage to the lawn. Apparently I'm once again being palmed off to yet another new child protection case manager. I think the last one lasted about 5 months, and the one before that 9. I don't get good vibes from this one, she seems quite dismissive and rude

I brought up the stuff about the lawn and the ex housemate coming back to the house, and to be honest I was pissed, and definitely less polite than I should've been. I almost lost it at the district manager (she's different (1 rank below) the area/regional manager). Both her and the regional manager promised all sorts of security upgrades (a gate to block the driveway, proper locks on the side gates, proper security cameras, and a deadbolt on the front door). None of them have even been logged with the maintenance team yet. They keep dragging their feet (which is pretty much the story of why everything that's happened, happened as it happened).

The only real good news of the recent week is that almost all of my stuff has now been replaced. I've ended up with a few upgrades (non working devices > working devices, and a couple of things have been discontinued and it worked out cheaper to buy a newer model, due to the old one being considered basically collectable). So that's nice I guess.

I'm once again left feeling unsafe and wondering if he's going to come back. I did manage to convince them to buy another security camera, which I'll sit in the old LTs bedroom which has a view of the driveway. I'm sure people on the street will be annoyed, because it clearly records the footpath and road too, but I don't think there's a lot I can do about that. It has the only decent vantage spot, and there's nowhere else I can put it which'll only record our property

I called the police. Apparently the assistance line can't help because it involves a vehicle, but they put me through to the station. The dude laughed and said "what is wrong with people", and I mean, he had a point...

Text messages from the cops always look so dodgy. "[Name] requests evidence from you. Click here to submit. vp.au/evidence" lol. My phone marked it as spam
