I'd like to enquire about the miners paying $0 tax and our elected officials getting sweet, sweet jobs with them after they leave public service.

How long will that enquiry take?

Unlike genocide, that situations fixable by voters, we just seem content with what we have.

We could Vote Green, who have policies around higher taxes fo the wealthy and and corporations and dental into medicare, free universty etc

hell, I dont vote Green to elect the Greens per se but to move the syatus quo off the orthodoxy and allow the Overton Window to shift.

Nothing changes until voters do.

Was travelling in Europe recently.

Ended up having a chart with a couple from Norway, someone from the United States, and some others.

The couple from Norway were absolutely phenomenal to listen to.

  • Free university
  • Free healthcare
  • Described how he had his wisdom teeth removed and it cost him nothing
  • His working hours were absolutely phenomenal and the amount of free time he had was a dream

In comparison, the young lady from the United States described how she was going to have a $350k student alone when she finishes studying. The table gasped in horror, and she justified it completely by saying it will be absolutely fine because she will easily earn six figures. Her life was over before it started, and we could all see it. She was absolutely defending it and thought it was totally fine.

However, the main part of this story is that the Norway couple looked at us, and he said directly, that Australia is the biggest crime, even more so than the American lady and her ridiculous university bill, because of the amount of minerals we have. In particular, that we don't charge any tax.

Surprised me that Europeans know this about us, and it's more than just embarrassing. Is the difference between the amazing lifestyle, and health benefits that the couple from Norway have, versus what we all face here.

We follow the United States lead, rather than the European lead. And it's all fixable so quickly, and so easily. This is not some deep-rooted societal problem, this is just a corruption problem.

As a long time greens voters, the greens do not have policies, they have ideas. As they know they're not going to win, they don't formulate any of their ideas and talking points as policies.

first formal "truth-telling" inquiry [...] from 2021

Holy fuck... I mean that's great but why did it take until 2021 for them to enquire about that?

Exactly what I just said to my workmates. Oh and I'm a Brit. I better lie low for a few years.

Yeah. “No shit” was my first thought as well.

Won’t complain if this inquiry means it makes a round in the news though. So many people are still clinging onto the myth the colonisers were nice people brining civilisation or some shit.

I was born in England. Lived in Aus more than half my life now. A few years ago I drank in the same pub as another former English bloke. He got here as a 12 year old. We were talking about the Brits running rampant around the world back in the day.

He said he was proud that "we" went around the world teaching the people about industry and all that. I'm like dude, "we" went around the globe raping and pillaging FFS.

Sad that so many people don't realise what went on. I have a half Aboriginal "friend" that brings up shit against the Brits, but he says it in a way that he blames me. I explained that I really wasn't there. He says it doesn't matter it was my lot......I don't mix with him these days.
