2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

The SV soaps are really wonderful. I don't know how to describe the scent of Cubebe, but it has that Italian signature to it. Absolutely refrehing and perfectly suited for a hot summer's day.

Today, I tried my second of four stainless steel razors. Like yesterday's stainless shave, this one was excellent. Again, I could easily use this razor for all of August.

I've started thinking about the gear for tomorrows BVWSC shave. No firm opinions so far. But I've taken an antihistamine pill, and hope for the best.

Have a good night!

Yes, very good. Batters Up++, although I still say it's grammatically incorrect.

  • Brush: Declaration Grooming Know It All 28mm B14 Badger Knot
  • Razor: Karve Shaving Co. Overlander
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O’Clock Super Stainless (Green) [10]
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann - Roam Two - Soap
  • Post Shave: Noble Otter - Lonestar - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: Noble Otter - Lonestar - Eau de Parfum

The scent notes for Roam Two (2.0) are listed as Tobacco, Grass, Soil, Thyme, Sage, Leather, Coffee, Pink Pepper, Juniper, Cypriol, Ginger, Musk, and Black Currant. It opened bright and tangy, but it didn't last long. There were hints of tobacco and leather, but not much more. The scent overall didn't live up to the hype of the original Roam, but I have no basis for comparison with the original.

Lonestar also starts with a similar bright, tanginess, but it opens up in a completely different way, making it a very enjoyable scent.

The first association my mind made when I opened a tub of NO Lonestar was, strangely, marzipan. Not the overly sweet ones like it's with Cella, but the darker kind often found in very expensive candy stores. Similar to how I expected a very masculine scent from B&M Le Grand Chypre and my nose instantly went "yup, that's cola with lime" . Sadly that's why I can't use Lonestar in any other season than winter...

Thanks for your comments on Roam Two. I have too many BaM soaps already and just wasn’t drawn to this one. The last BaM soap I purchased was Marilyn which I didn’t “get” until I bought the fragrance. Now, I’m happy to have it.

I've heard this before about Marilyn. The soap sample I had was okay, but it didn't speak to me either. I might have to try getting a hold of the fragrance...

I mentioned to Will (at the Maggard Meetup) that I thought the connection to Marilyn Monroe was a real stretch. He was born well after she died, but she was alive when I was young and I had the experience of her unique stardom on my generation. The fragrance has that mix of scents from a long romantic evening. It's subtle and very nice once you glom onto it, and once you do, you can appreciate the soap and splash. This is a setup where I definitely recommend the trifecta.
