NATO would wipe the floor with them, at any point in time.

What else to do? NATO is the one who been encroaching to the Russian borders for decades, even though it promissed it would never expand.

The good part is most of the arsenal of NATO has been destroyed and used up on Ukraine. Perfect timing.

NATO encroachment

Promise to never expand

Arsenal being used up

Oh wow, a full hand of Russian propaganda! I bet you'll get an extra couple rubles for this post, daddy vladdy loves cramming in all kinds of bullshit into a single package.

[–] [email protected] -2 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Firstly, do you disagree with the fact that NATO promised, in 1990, it would never expand an inch towards Russia?

Has it expanded since then or not?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 7 months ago

Before I answer that, do you disagree with the fact that Russia signed a treaty in 1997 that explicitly allowed eastern block countries to join NATO by guaranteeing the territorial integrity (and autonomy) of the countries? Funny how you don't hear Russian propagandists talk about that one lol.

As to the alleged 'promise' you refer to, can you point to where it was written and agreed to? Or are you just going off of oral statements to Gorbachev before the USSR fell by one us diplomat that wasn't supported by his peers in the negotiation team and was walked back by the time the actual treaty was signed?

Our disagreement is going to come down to whether non-binding oral statements count as promises, or if you think subsequent signed agreements don't overrule spoken statements.

”Most of the arsenal of NATO”?

That’s just ridiculous. Not a single NATO country has compromised their own defense for this, which can be argued to be a bad or a good thing from either side, and most everyone’s been buying up new gear and investing heavily on new tech; they are, with a few minor exceptions, basically sending the scraps that’d go to landfill if it wasn’t convenient-ish to send them to Ukraine instead….

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago* (last edited 8 months ago) (1 children)

Lol, ah the encroachment talking point. NATO doesn't force countries to join. Maybe if Russia was a better neighbor, they wouldn't have to worry about the Baltics requesting to join. Fucking chud. Also there was NEVER a promise. That talking point has been disproven over and over.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

How do you know whether NATO forces the countries to join or not? From the TV and news? Or have you been in the meetings and heard all the details?

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

As you can clearly see there is an application you have to fill out you fucking dunce.

[–] [email protected] -3 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

So a country can't be forced to fill out an application whilst pretending, for the public, that it's done so voluntarily?

You cocky cock of a wet dog

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

No, a country can not be forced to join NATO. Sorry to break your pathetic attempt of an argument.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

You can't possibly know this and have no evidence.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

And you think you're right? Where's your proof chump?

[–] [email protected] -5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

The proof is the fact that NATO has exapanded, since 1990. For whatever reason. You clean home crocodile

[–] [email protected] 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Maybe Russia should stop being horrible neighbors?

[–] [email protected] -5 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago) (1 children)

Maybe Europe and Ukraine should stop being horrible neighbours of Russia?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Oh, won't someone think about poor Russia?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Oh, won’t someone think about poor Europe and Ukraine ?

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago (2 children)

I can almost guarantee that NATO will do some tricky “in order to defend NATO countries we must attack Russia first” business.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

They said, while Russia is literally in the middle of doing the sort of invasion NATO is warning against.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

When that doesn't happen I can definitely guarantee that you will learn nothing and pretend like you never held this moronic opinion.

… Gosh, I’m beginning to think that a US-lead NATO might not be good for global peace and that the US government might be the most reactionary, anti-progressive polity in the modern world. I’m beginning to think that I’ve been fed lies all my life by media manufacturing consent for unjustifiable wars! Operation Desert Storm, Iraq War, WMDs, War on Terror, the Nakba, the second Nakba, the overthrow of the leftist Guatemalan government and subsequent ethnic cleansing of the Mayan people (if you want I can keep going.) It’s almost like it has happened over and over again and Americans allies go along with it every single time because they stand to gain something from! It’s like any military organization made up of these psychopaths will only be used for destabilizing the developing world! It’s like our governments have an interest in keeping the rest of the world destabilized so that they and their supporting billionaires can profit from exploiting the world resources and labor.

(Obligatory ‘Putin is a cunt’ because people on Lemmy lack the capability to think one person can hold both these political opinions at the same time)

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

No part of that is relevant to your absurd claim .

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

I hope he’s not still alive by then.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Same story is being reposted multiple times from different sources, this one is first so keeping it and removing the others.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

They're different stories about different statements from different countries. Estonia, Germany, and Poland all independently made statements, not as a single joint statement.

If this is a policy going forward, it should be listed as a rule.

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago

There are two types of propaganda, this is one of them

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

That would be a big mistake by Putin. Could be his last. And it will take more than 8 years to even think about it. Ukraine has deflated the Russian military. It will take more than 10 years for them to rearm

[–] [email protected] -1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Last? He'll be geriatric at that point.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago

Then? He’s geriatric now.

Ah, the miracles of plastic surgery and not moving your expression much.

Honestly the whole "putin bad" spam posting (not to mention scare mongering like this post) on the daily is getting tiresome to say the least. 😐

[–] [email protected] 1 points 8 months ago (1 children)

He is bad. The fuck you talking about?

[–] [email protected] -2 points 8 months ago (1 children)

Okay. Do I need to be reminded of it every single fucking day I log into this god forsaken site?
