The point is to stop expanding oil exploitation and refinement, and gradually reduce our dependency on the existing refining capabilities. But sure, your strawman of stopping all refining at once sounds pretty bad, almost as bad as unchecked climate change...

Plastics. That's likely the biggest impact most people are unaware of.
Given people who care about the environment want to drastically reduce plastic usage anyway, seems like a win-win.

Yeah dude, that's the whole point, that's why people are roasting to death in the thousands under heat domes right now for the wealth of a few petroleum corporations.
