THE POLICE PROBLEM

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

Dougan, a former Marine and police officer, fled his home in Florida in 2016 to evade criminal charges related to a massive doxxing campaign he was accused of launching against public officials and was given asylum by the Russian government. Most recently, Dougan has posed as a journalist in Ukraine’s Donbas region, testifying at Russian public hearings and making frequent appearances on Russian state TV.

The MAGATs should follow Dougan to shithole Muscoviteville. If the POS returns to the USA, the USMC should arrest him and throw his ass into Ft. Leavenworth.

I'm sure he fits right in.

The very definition of Useful Idiot.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Not even close. A useful idiot is tricked into doing something they did not intend to do.

This guy is all in with Russia.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Incorrect. A useful idiot is someone who doesn't understand the impact/outcome of their actions. A foreign agent doesn't need to turn/trick/recruit an actor because the idiot is already doing the subversive work for nothing. A small amount of money or encouragement goes a long way with idiots. An example ...does anyone else remember the "Hillary is 44" movement after she lost the nomination to Obama?

He looks like a thumb. Or a big toe.

Maybe he and Snowden can brainstorm ideas on how best to pretend to have strong moral convictions backing your actions while simultaneously being a mouthpiece for Putin. It can't be easy to pretend to be a person willing to risk it all, get to Russia, and suddenly fall in line.

Oh look, it's the propaganda guy!

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Russia bad, surveillance bad, this has been your daily propaganda leaflet ~~

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Oh shit, what if I agree?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Snowden fled to Russia because he’s wanted for espionage in the United States. He doesn’t have many choices on places he can go. It’s either Russia, or China.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Snowden's actions were based on a positive ethical foundation and is accused of putting people in danger, although I don't remember those accusations being substantiated.

This guy fled because he was actively and intentionally harming people for malicious purposes. He continues to be malicious.

They are not comparable.

I was in Afghanistan when he leaked everything and nothing changed for us

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Pick one:

a) Snowden haphazardly leaked our documents because he can't abide mass surveillance. He had to do it and risk everything because of his moral convictions.

b) Snowden repeats Putin's propaganda because his safety is more important than doing the right thing. He can abide things like the invasion of Ukraine or interference in American politics in favor of practical concerns.

(You know it's possible for Snowden to have done something good while also being a shithead, right? I'm saying these shitheads can keep each other company.)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

They are both true, and if you look at a calendar you will see that there was significant amount of time and changing circumstances between 1 and 2.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

So just to be clear, nobody is denying Snowden is a Kremlin mouthpiece. It's just a faux pas to imply Snowden is not a virtuous person? Or is it mean to group Snowden, a Russian stooge, with other Russian stooges, because of his past?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

It is unreasonable to dismiss his ethically based release of information because of more recent events. He ended up with Russia because other countries were not willing to grant asylum, and even though he is a stooge now because of that outcome it does not mean he was always a shithead.

He's not just living in Russia, he's actively working directly for the Russian disinformation machine.
