More serious politics should go in [email protected].

Posts should be related to UK-centric news, and should be either a link to a reputable source, or a text post on this community.

Opinion pieces are also allowed, provided they are not misleading/misrepresented/drivel, and have proper sources.

If you think "reputable news source" needs some definition, by all means start a meta thread.

Posts should be manually submitted, not by bot. Link titles should not be editorialised.

Disappointing comments will generally be left to fester in ratio, outright horrible comments will be removed.
Message the mods if you feel something really should be removed, or if a user seems to have a pattern of awful comments.

I'm interested to hear why you don't plan on voting.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Not worth engaging. No actual political ideology, no analyses, not interested in engaging with discussion just being jackass, quite possibly a troll.

You might prefer one of the available options. Some are worse than others.

Because you live in a democracy and it's a part of your duty to vote.

Non voters are embarrassing.

it's a part of your duty to vote

ROFL "duty"?!

I'm absolutely astonished that you would come out with such a ridiculous, anachronistic idea. Tell me, what precisely happened in your life that gave you the idea that I owe anyone any kind of duty simply because I was born? Did you watch a Disney movie?

Clearly in your mind there is a logical chain from some starting point to the end point of voting being a duty. I challenge you to write this down in words. To express your idea lucidly and rationally. Convince me. I dare you to try. Do you have it in you? Or can you only embarrass yourself further?

You seem like a nice person lol.

Refusing to contribute to society is just embarrassing. Grow up.

If you don't want to contribute you can always end, move to the jungle or some authoritarian undemocratic country. I don't really care which.

You don't have it in you to express your view then, I see.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Lol, sure believe that.

I don't need to explain it further because normal people understand.

Not voting, if you're otherwise able, is a tacit acceptance for how things are.

Presumably you don't want to vote for the incumbents, so vote for someone who'll replace them, whether you like that option or not.

Voting out a bad lot is the only legal way we have to protest.

And then vote third party next time if they don't change things to your liking. Then fourth. Fifth. Etc.

Don't like the political parties? Start one.

Think the whole lot should be lined up and shot? (For legal reasons this is purely metaphorical.) Start organising.

But if that's too much for you, vote.

I disagree.

Either vote or shut up.

Seriously if you don't engage in the political system you have no right to complain about it.

Why not? I don't follow.

Because you're the sort of person that says "ooh both sides are the same", but firstly that isn't true they are very different political parties otherwise they would literally be the same party, they have existed for long enough they would have homogenized by now, and secondly even if it was true, refusing to engage in the political system will simply ensure that it continues to exist.

At least everyone else is trying to improve their lot rather than just moaning about it. Which is you've elected to do. Complaining without action is literally useless, if that's all you're going to do I'd rather you did it quietly somewhere else.

What is the point in announcing to the world that you are a stubborn jackass? Feel for you to be a stupid jackass but don't tell us about it we don't care.

Because you're the sort of person that says "ooh both sides are the same"

You have no idea what kind of person I am. You're jumping to conclusions.

At least everyone else is trying to improve their lot rather than just moaning about it. Which is you've elected to do.

Not voting doesn't imply not improving one's lot. I have not elected to not improve my lot.

you are a stubborn jackass

I'm not going to reduce myself to your level by telling you what I think you are.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Because you have the chance to change things for the better and if you don't take that chance but still keep complaining about things then all you are doing is pretending you care.

Because you have the chance to change things for the better

How?

and if you don't take that chance but still keep complaining about things then all you are doing is pretending you care

Complaining doesn't imply caring. If my neighbours keep me up until 2am having parties on school nights and I complain about that, the complaining doesn't mean I care about anything beyond my own wellbeing.
