Thursday, May 16, 2024: Starman

My skin is rather irritated these days, and I should maybe give my face a day off.

Shoutout to Terre d'HermΓ¨s: The after-shave is good, but they managed to package it in probably the shittiest bottle in the business. A very wide bottle body goes without any transition to the shortest and smallest neck – which makes dosing a pain.

Have a good night!

Sounds exactly like those chatty lux splash bottles.

2 passes. Face lather. Excellent shave.

I have @whosgotthepudding to thank for recommending Roman Spice.

This is a scent designed by u/hawns to be a fresh scent of the '60s updated for the millennial/GenX generations. As someone who was around in the '60s, I'd say that this scent has less of that one-note feel (and strength) of the post WWII scents that I'm familiar with, and has more complexity, balance, and a more appropriate strength for the 21st century. I still get wafts of the EdT as I type this, but the scent does not have to compete with a smoke-filled room (typical of the '60s where everyone smoked). Well done! I hope you whippersnappers enjoy it!

Today I used a Puma 89 for the shave. This is a new razor to the collection that I purchased off eBay for a very good price. Suspicious that you "get what you pay for", I honed the razor expecting that there would be some problems to overcome. There were. Here is the video for the honing. The shave with the resulting Ozuku Jnat edge was wonderful.

Red Tip++

Such a pleasure to use, especially coming from using a Black Beauty for a couple of days. I really do prefer razors without any positive exposure.

I haven't had much sense of smell the past few days (not COVID thankfully) so using Scots Pine Sheep multiple days in a row hasn't been a problem. It's not a bad scent, there's just not much too it. And the mutton base, as we all know, is great.

Your red tip doesn't have a positive exposure?

I have the British rocket version, and I think it has a decent exposure. I'll have to double check.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

My Red Tip is suspiciously mild.

Maybe some joker painted a Blue Tip red πŸ˜‚

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

The paint is chipping off (as it does) and there's no blue paint! Maybe it was a regular Flare Tip that got painted?

Maybe it was a regular Flare Tip that got painted?

Probably! I don't see any other option :)

I suspect it was a democrat (unless it's British, then I blame the Tories) 🀣

[–] [email protected] 3 points 5 months ago

Those sneaky democrats, first they steal the election, then the exposure :shakes_fist_at_sky:

Damn this Roman Spice is some good stuff. There's only a couple of scents in my den that smell nice to Mrs. Pudding every day. This is one of them. She really likes this one.

My Roman Kamlash razor came back home the other day after being out on loan. I'm glad to have it back home. This chopper is a real joy to shave with.

Nice shave this morning.

🍎 Braeburn 🍎

  • Brush: Zenith 506U N (50/50 horse mane/tail)
  • Razor: Zwilling J. A. Henckels Friodur Unnumbered 8/8" ( hollow ground, stainless steel, round point)
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Braeburn
  • Aftershave: Summer Break Soaps Teacher's Pet
  • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors Saint Julep

Braeburn is my most recent software addition, and it's a nice apple scent similar to teacher's pet. I enjoyed how omnibus gets long with this 50/50 mane/tail horse brush: The coarse bristles pick up soap easily without making a froth, and the combination of a soft backbone and clipped bristles is a pleasant lever of scritch. Great lather, and great scent. Possibly 2024 Austere August material.

The big razor is silky smooth. Three wonderful passes.

Saint Julep has a similar sweet gourmand feel to it, even without the apple.

Glad you liked Braeburn. I just got my full tub the other day after finishing off the sample. I may copy your software setup this weekend.

Did you also only get the soap? I'm looking for nice post shave ideas to pair with it, but can only come up with Rhapsody, Pomona, and Teacher's Pet. Not very creative πŸ˜…

[–] [email protected] 2 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Yep, just the soap. For post shave I figured Teacher's Pet is already pretty close to it anyway. For other options, maybe Alive, Bixby, or Opulence?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 5 months ago

mhm, Opulence? I'll wouldn't have thought of that anytime soon. I'll give it a try.

I don't have the other two.
