Discussion about the aussie.zone instance itself

founded 1 year ago
MODERATORS

Hey all, can anyone tell me the date we're gona land on for the first anniverssary?

I guess it'll be when the instance was spun up? Or i don't know, maybe when it was a twinkle in Lodion's eye?

As Nath posted, the domain was registered June 8th 2023. Lemmy was set up on the domain that same day.

That's a year that has flown by...

The "admin" user joined on the 8th of June last year and I'm guessing that was the initial account used for setup, so probably that date the instance started

ICANN lookup is another source. According to them, aussie.zone was registered on 2023-06-08 05:26:09 UTC.

So, yes. 8th of June would be a date I'd endorse. It's also @lodion's signup date. The oldest "regular" user is @BadlyDrawnRhino, who signed up on June 16th. You could argue that was the day we opened to the public and is more appropriate.

What's your criteria for a regular user?

I see what you mean, you pre-date June 16th. I actually didn't know there was a week where signups were free-for-all and not admin approved. Rhino was the earliest user who was approved by an admin. Now I'm back to endorsing June 8th.

I actually thought I did have to fill in one of those applications doo-dads, but I have accounts on a few other instances, so perhaps I'm getting mixed up.

I think the vast majority of people joined on either June 10, 11, or 12, when rexxit was peaking, at least most of c/Melbourne did.

I stuck with BaconReader until it stopped working on July 1. Then I just detoxed for a bit.
After a couple of days, I looked into this whole Lemmy thing and then laughed out loud when I saw an old friend was running the Australian instance.

That sounds like its about the right timing. Where did you find that?

Right next to the comment never shows dates on jerboa, sync, or on duckduckgo when i've checked. As the comment gets further away in time it turns into x months ago. Which is totally fine, apart from in this case.

Cheers for the link! :)

Edit: Okay, just checked the link. I now understand your reply. Lol, Cheers.

Just in case you want cake day down to the second...

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Lol Wtf, the mouse hover! Ofc

These are the problems i have when i never get off my phone!

I don't know if i'm organised enough for down to the second work, i'm iffy with hourly estimates at the best of times.

I'll bet there's a massive meet up planned in Melbourne. Thousands are expected, and streets are being closed in preparation.

In Brisbane it will just be me, the bandicoot, and the coax cable guy arguing over who gets the Falcon.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

It'll be a trainline take over if @baku has anything to do with it :)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

As long as there's less than a thousand of us, we can Charter a train

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Did we just find the upper limit for this server?

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Noone said we can't charter 2! Maybe we'll reach a point where we need more chartered trains than metro runs regular services ;)

Brisbane is the second largest city-based community on Aussie.zone!

Last I checked Melbourne was the largest city-based community on Lemmy...

Melbourne's daily threads have like 65535 comments a day. Brisbane's daily thread generally has 3.

I'm getting sore shoulders doing all this carrying.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Look at this guy showing off, 3!

I’m from Adelaide and don’t even know if we have an Adelaide thread

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

WOW ANOTHER PERSON FROM ADELAIDE WE NEED TO DIGITALLY REPRODUCE AND REPOPULATE OUR GREAT CITY'S COMMUNITY

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

/C/Melbourne: I can't believe the daily thread only got 400 comments today

/C/Brisbane: 400? We're only getting 4!

/C/Adelaide: You guys are getting daily threads??

I try to help out by posting Brisbane articles whenever I see them, but not living in Brisbane makes it hard to join in on discussions

I check in on your DTs and chuck out some upvotes every so often

I'm a very generous man, you see!

I'll take the chance to say cheers for doing the same on the c/Perth/WA community. I at least appreciate it a bunch :)

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

♥️

I can't usually contribute very much to the discussions that stem from it, but I figured the more posts there are, the more potential for discussion there is. Stops the communities from being entirely dead at least I guess

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago (2 children)

Go recruiting on r/Brisbane. That's why we got so many members.

You can also join us for a chinwag anytime.

I don't know if there's a per-subreddit shadow ban or whatever, but the mods made it clear that they don't like me deleting my old posts and ever since then nothing I post gets any replies or updoots.

I mean my sample size is small, maybe a dozen posts since the API dramas, but still.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Some of the mods were active on here momentarily, but must've left when they realised they would lose control by bringing their community over here - or ditching reddit themselves

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

Oh. Arseholes.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

I love how we all grouped together to recruit all the DT regulars. I mean I didn't really do anything, but I watched you guys do it 😂

[–] [email protected] 0 points 5 months ago

I'll be staying at home because it'll be too cold out there.
