Orphan Crushing Machine

A community featuring uplifting and wholesome news stories that overlook deeply ingrained systemic problems.

The rules:

1. Your post must be an unironic presentation of a wholesome story, but one that overlooks systemic failures that made the story possible in the first place. In other words, we want posts that highlight "Yay, the problem is solved!", but ignore "Wait, why was this a problem in the first place?" at the same time.

2. Re-posts will be removed at mod discretion.

3. Sitewide rules apply. Basically, (a) don't be a dick; (b) use the NSFW tag; (c) no spam; (d) don't attack people; and (e) don't abuse the report button.

Ah, now this is the good sort of cross posting that got me banned from uplifting news.

Someone should start a community for exactly these kinds of posts

How awful that you need to be contracted as a career athlete to receive healthcare in, what country? * Checks * Oh.. Oh, ok, that's lovely and heartwarming good news then I guess.

The cognitive dissonance in media disgusts me. This bright sliding is so stupid it hurts. Do US-americans actually see this as "good news" and be like "oh that's so wholesome!"? They can't be all this simple.

It is good news in the sense that someone is in trouble and they are helping him when they didn't have to.

The circumstances of how he is in trouble are a separate issue and one that I find so strange for a supposedly civilised nation to have.

But you guys keep voting for republicans and choosing undemocratic corporate rule over elected government rule.

Why is it seen as preferable to allow a greedy corporation you can't get rid of to have more power over you than the government you can (supposedly) vote out?

No no no, don't pin this on us. We didn't choose this bullshit. I can about guarantee you no American on Lemmy voted red. We're victims in this just as much as anyone else is. It's exhausting seeing people blame all Americans for the actions of idiotic red voters. Half this country is on your side. Blaming us only further alienates us and sows division. So don't "you guys" us. Allow me to reiterate: we didn't want this.

Well when we gave the Democrats a shper majority 16 years ago, they decided to go with the Republican healthcare plan instead of the single layer system they had been pushing for in the 80's and 90's.

It's the same kind of "good news" like "orphans now to receive dream-vacation before being crushed in the orphan-crushing-machine". That's also very good and is helping them.

How am I supposed to see those two things separated?

But hey the muricans do have their so beloved freedom. It really actually IS the land of the free. The fine print just says "...for corporations, not you, you filthy peasant".
