The former billionaire, who inherited a coal mining business from his father, presides over a state where 29% of residents are on Medicaid

When Senator Jim Justice of West Virginia was asked about the Senate Republicans' newly released portion of the proposed spending bill that requires parents of children older than 14 to work for Medicaid, he said, "biblically, we are supposed to work."

Legally, you're supposed to do your fucking job and get America such good healthcare it makes Europe blush. Not die on camera in the middle of a photoshoot before your mouth can fully form your war crimes.

Which Bible? The Pimp’s Bible?

I would point out how the old testament also talks of owning slaves but since the reds are mask off fascists, that is unironically their goal as well.

[–] JPSound@lemmy.world 41 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Yeah sure. It also says we are supposed to be stewards of the earth and take care of each other as if we are brothers and sisters. Yet they push legislation to destroy the earth under our "biblical" care and treat others like criminals and garbage. But please go on with your corperate bullshit. The Bible says not to take the lords name in vein. That doesn't mean shouting "god fucking damnit" when you stubborn your pinky toe. I means using your diety as the reason for entirely unbiblical bullshit. So, basically, go fuck yourself dude.

Constitutionally, your Bible is irrelevant.

[–] BetaBlake@lemmy.world 58 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Jesus famously didn't give bread and fish unless you'd been working real hard that year.

Maybe a religious text isn't a good basis for a government

Luke 14:13-14

But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, and the blind. And you will be blessed because they cannot repay you, for you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.

[–] FundMECFSResearch@lemmy.blahaj.zone 48 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Luke 3:11

In reply he said to them, “Whoever has two coats must share with anyone who has none, and whoever has food must do likewise.”

[–] Laser@feddit.org 29 points 1 week ago

"luckily, I have 50, so this doesn't apply to me."

[–] Wytch@lemmy.zip 24 points 1 week ago

Wait wait wait wait. You're telling me, a bunch of poor rural white people elected an out-of-touch billionaire who never worked a day in his life, and it's news that he doesn't give a flying rat's ass about those he represents?

Well fuck me sideways.

[–] Hermit_Lailoken@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Piss on your shitty book.

[–] phoenixz@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

Biblically we're...

Says the man who never actually read a Bible in his whole life.

And why should he? I mean first of all it's a dumb, boring and incompetently written fictional book, but moreover, imthere is a lot in there that says he and people like him are the bad guys, and who wants to read that?

[–] TheTimeKnife@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Jesus Christ, famously against feeding and healing the poor.

[–] NoForwardslashS@sopuli.xyz 15 points 1 week ago

Biblically, this man is going to hell.

[–] jubilationtcornpone@sh.itjust.works 42 points 1 week ago (2 children)

"Don’t rob the poor just because you can, or exploit the needy in court. For the LORD is their defender. He will ruin anyone who ruins them."

Proverbs 22:22-23

I'm.... Honestly unsure if you're kidding or not

[–] porous_grey_matter@lemmy.ml 10 points 1 week ago

James 5:1-6, NRSV

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming to you. Your riches have rotted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you, and it will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure during the last days. Listen! The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts. You have lived on the earth in luxury and in pleasure; you have nourished your hearts in a day of slaughter. You have condemned and murdered the righteous one, who does not resist you.

We are everywhere

[–] ZombiFrancis@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 week ago

He does not deserve Babydog.

[–] the_q@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 week ago

This guy deserves a biblical ass beating.

[–] DandomRude@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

That's pretty much what a medieval feudal lord would say. I think people like this have exactly this understanding of themselves: they claim a vague, God-given right to rule over their subjects – a crude excuse for their crimes and inhumanity.

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Biblically, this man should be stoned to death for wearing cloth made of differing fibers.

Jesus also healed the sick. And he didn’t charge them for it.

Alas, working and receiving healthcare do not have to be inextricably linked. It’s nuts that our health insurance is tied to employment here in the US.

In fact, having a social safety net encourages entrepreneurship.

This guy sucks.

[–] chicken@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

It’s nuts that our health insurance is tied to employment here in the US.

Even more nuts that they specifically want it to be that way to coerce people into working in order not to be left to die

[–] Critical_Thinker@lemm.ee 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

Healthy enough to work or sick enough to die.

That's what they want. Work or die. It's that black and white for the ~~slave~~ working class.

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Entrepreneurship doesn't pay for lobbyists to bribe politicians though

[–] Zachariah@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

but social safety nets make exploitation and control harder to keep

Biblically you shouldnt hoard power and wealth and yet that taint of a human does.

[–] solsangraal@lemmy.zip 11 points 1 week ago

tiny rural bumfuck maga towns like the one i live in will not only lose their healthcare, but also their hospitals. and all the sunken eyed droopy-face maga morons will still sing the praises of glorious leader, like the good obedient serfs they are

[–] edgemaster72@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

With all due respect, Jim Justice can get fucked by his imaginary sky daddy. Biblically. The rest of us don't wanna hear it.

[–] Fingolfinz@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

It’s legitimately beyond the point where we should be planning for a general strike

[–] brandon@piefed.social 78 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You know, I don't recall Medicaid being mentioned once in the bible.

I do seem to remember something about giving all of your possessions to the poor though. But maybe I am imagining that.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 49 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The socialism that Jesus taught would carry over to cover medical care that simply didn't exist at the time. It's funny how "socialism" is used by some as a bad thing...there is nothing wrong with society taking care of the citizens, it's sort of the point of having it.

Then why doesn't this guy get a real job?

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 38 points 1 week ago

Does this person think managing a household with the bare minimum cash flow isn't work? Perhaps he can put himself on the streets with the clothing on his back, $20 and no access to his or family money, phones, electronics, for a month and survive, then come back and tell us how it's not working.

[–] cybervseas@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

Former billionaire

One down, 900 to go.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 126 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Imagine being responsible for hurting so many people and turning around and think you're a good Christian quoting Bible crap. I wish Jesus was real and coming soon, so he could slap you in the face. This is not what he meant (or the writers of what he said about loving each other, anyway).

[–] brandon@piefed.social 78 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (6 children)

If Jesus was real and did come back we'd probably never know because he would get deported and die in a Salvadorian torture prison.

[–] Wazowski@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago

Jesus? Sounds Mexican, he wouldn’t last a day.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 47 points 1 week ago

Or put back on a cross. To paraphrase the comic about aliens asked about knowing Jesus, "Yes, he always comes back around to visit every year or so. We gave him donuts. What did you guys do?"

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Soon we'll all be Trumptians anyway once he invades the Vatican and elects himself Pope.
