There's an episode of "Mad About You' where the wife asks her husband's best pal to buy him a birthday present from her. The pal buys a wall size poster of this movie. The husband loves it and keeps gushing about how great a wife she is. She has to grit her teeth and deal with a giant half naked woman in her living room forever.
Oh, honey. People back then wanted to be crushed by her too. They just didn't feel they could be open about it.
