Come to Quark’s, Quark’s is Fun!

General off-topic chat for the crew of startrek.website. Trek-adjacent discussions, other sci-fi television, navigating the Fediverse, server meta (within reason), selling expired cases of Yamok sauce, it’s all fair game.

Idk what's more horrifying-- The existence of these fake ai photos or the fact that people are basing their opinions off of images they see online.

What ever happened to reading a history book?

They rehosted the image as "F-35Gulliver.jpg".

You can miss that the people standing around this stadium-sized single-pilot aircraft are as tall as the buildings in the corner.

stadium-sized single-pilot aircraft

Americans really need to stop overcompensating with their vehicles.

Sometimes I think AI slop does nothing but remind us that social media could never really be trusted to deliver reality in the first place.

I think it actually does deliver reality. Actual reality, that there is bad people out there who want nothing more then to hurt and watch others be destroyed. Reality isn't all Daisy's and whatnot like people assumed. Hatred is real.

I'm not conding peiples actions, but I do believe that is the reality of the world.

I disagree, AI slop cannot teach anyone that "hate is real". It cannot teach anything, only persuade.

Even without AI- if you are trying to learn about the world, social media is not a reliable place to get information because it will only show you what the algorithm prioritizes. And the algorithm (even if showing real, non-ai, images and videos) is not trying to paint a cohesive and accurate version of events.

My comment was about 'social media cannot be trusted to deliver reality in the first place'

AI has nothing to do with social media, or its ability to deliver reality. It's an extra that's added to it which will obscure reality as it makes things up and gets confused. The humans that use social media, are the ones that deliver reality in that it's not all Daisy's and roses..hate exists. That is reality.
