Hello rational, logical thinkers.

Some of you might be losing your minds with all the idiotic takes that get flooded on here about the upcoming election

"Don't vote for Biden's genocide because Trump's genocide will be better. Also, it will definitely not become domestic genocide although he promised to take revenge on his perceived enemies if he wins, which is all democrats and people of color. He's totally joking even though he's never joked in his life."

I am reminded of the 2016 election from the perspective of Reddit. If you were like me during the election, you were pretty confident that Bernie was going to be the Democrat candidate. We all "Felt the Bern" and there was a ton of support in the form of posts and comments saying it was all but certain. Then reality set in that Reddit content is only but a small slice of the actual voting population in the United States and we got Biden instead.

I bring this up because Lemmy is even smaller than reddit. As an example, Transgenders make up 1-2% of the population yet it seems like 20-30% of Lemmy users are trans.

So when you're feeling existential dread because of these fucking idiots, just remember that it's a subset of a subset of the US voting population and is not actually mainstream thinking.

Stay critical, be skeptical, try not to fall for the fascist attempts to drain your energy and tire you out.

And yes, vote.

Biden should stop supporting genocide.

You might want to learn what the word genocide actually means.

Hamas could stop the killing today* if it gave a shit about Palestinian people. Instead, they are cashing in on a PR bonanza and people like you making it worthwhile.

* Agree to release all hostages in return for a cease-fire.

Genocide denialism is the sort of shit I won't entertain. Gaslight someone else.

Fine… Curious if you consider Hamas a brave band of freedom fighters?

Also, do you think the US should have stopped attacking Japanese forces after matching the body count of Pearl Harbor (you know, in order to avoid the genocide of innocent Japanese citizens)? Or keep going until they were crushed and forced to surrender?

I said I wasn't going to entertain you. Sealioning isn't going to get me to engage with you on your terms either.

You should stop supporting Trump.

I don't support Trump. Centrists can't imagine anyone opposing the genocide they love without having an ulterior motive.

You are defined by your actions, not your intentions or rhetoric. You are supporting Trump.

I do not support Donald Trump. You can't defend supporting genocide, so instead you libel people who oppose it.

No. There are only two choices in the American election. When there are only two choices, it is a zero sum game. Undermining one means supporting the other. Ergo, your undermining of Biden at this critical time means you are supporting Trump.

You just don't want people to express opposition to genocide.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ad hominem. No assumption you make about my motives changes the effect of what you are doing.

Your entire premise is based on the false dichotomy that criticism of Biden's support for genocide is support for Trump.

Anyone with a conscience should vote for Joe Biden in the 2024 general election. Trump is a fascist piece of shit and always has been, and no one should vote for him.

I am voting for Biden. I support Biden in the 2024 election. All you care about is that I said that Biden should stop supporting genocide. You should stop supporting genocide too, but I doubt you consider that it's even possible to not support genocide.

It is not a false dichotomy. It is the electoral reality of a two-party state. The rest of your comment and your expressed intentions don't matter when the net effect of what you are doing is to undermine Biden. The really ironic part is that by underming Biden, and thereby supporting Trump, if Trump wins you will have helped make Israel less accountable.

It is not a false dichotomy.

Your dichotomy is predicated on it being a zero sum game, which it isn't. The size of the overall voting population is not fixed. In addition, the electoral college and the existence of swing states mean that not all voters have equal bearing on the results. There are too many confounding variables for you to credibly make the assertion that it's zero sum. Criticism of genocide is not support for Trump.

I believe that Biden's actions regarding Gaza will alienate enough voters that he will lose the election if he does not abandon his support for Netanyahu's genocide. I don't want Biden to lose, because it would mean Trump. Genocide is also reprehensible and no one should support it, but you've made it clear that you don't believe that.

In any event, you would rather Biden maintain his support for genocide and lose than Biden abandon it and win.

I feel like Trump is very popular with the 13-16 year old male demographic, and they're very flexible with how they express their support.

Lemmy users are, I think, more expressive because the old site stopped being a place for actual discussion and a good number of us are from small communities in the earlier days of the internet. I won't tell you how to vote, but please do. Maybe even block some communities if you need to. I stopped going to Google News about a month ago and my mental health definitely improved. I find myself reading more that I wanna know about rather than what happens to have happened.

You thought Bernie was gonna win?
