Just had a weekend alone with my little one while partner was away. It was so sweet and fun to have a weekend free of goals and tasks and focus on playing and going on adventures. I was dreading the intensity and duration of multi day solo parenting, but at the beginning of the weekend I had a moment of reframe in which I was able to see that this time also had the possibiltiy to be special and memorable. It was!

Anyone have book recs for toddler parenting? No specific topics really, Im just interested to be a bit wiser of a parent. Currently slowly reading "how to talk so little kids will listen".

For the last couple of nights one of my boys has been waking up around 5:30 in the morning grabbing at his bum saying 'Ow'. I think it's a constipation issue but there's a lot going on.

He seems to be passing things like normal. He doesn't seem that interested in eating, especially at dinner, and the pain seems to just pass on its own. It's not like he finally lets something out and feels better.

3yo is getting way too smart for their own good (I've tried to warn them against it, to no avail).

They've started calling us out for skipping pages in their books. Even if they're distracted and basically out of the room, they'll come back over and tell us that we did not read some obscure little part from 5 pages back.

Like bruh, maybe they shouldn't have made a book full of "5 minute stories" that take 20 minutes each to read.

Haven't posted in a bit. We were having a rough patch with kids for a while coupled with a rash of meltdowns from me. But the last few days have felt more like a family. Our youngest is really starting to get into pretend play and acting goofy. But he's also having some pretty fucking violent meltdowns like mine.

Partner and kids are going on vacation at her parents cabin in a few days so I get some alone time. I purposely choose to stay home every other year to re-calibrate my fucked up brain. They get to go have fun and I get to do 2 years worth of decompressing and even get away with shutting down if I need to. Mental health fucking sucks.

Happy Pride, y'all!

Kids are great. I had to bite my tongue this weekend at a pool party. The end of school brought a bunch of contact cards and invitations and now we are meeting parents we don’t otherwise know. One lady mentioned Texas is bringing back corporal punishment in a positive tone, and my wife wad praying I wouldn’t say anything…

Apparently the What Should Danny Do? authors are Zionists. Maybe they should use the Power 2 Choose to not support genocide? thonk

Well, when we moved about a year ago there happened to be a daycare on the corner. My child was pretty scared of strangers so we started going over there together. The lady who ran it was a lovely 75 year old lady. She let me sit and hold him until he got comfortable. It took months. She never judged me. I was just there on Thursday and Friday. It was so nice to have her to talk to.

Yesterday we heard screaming and ran out to find her daughter hysterical. Her mom had passed in her sleep. I have not been great. I don’t really have a lot of friends here and my child really loved her. I did too.

So rough week for the family here.

That's awful, I'm so sorry.

I’m so sorry to hear that, that’s awful. I don’t know if you haven’t yet but share that with her daughter. Let her know.

I have a million things she said running through my mind. I think I have to write a letter.

Comrades, it is my great pleasure to inform you that 2-year-old Fish has been liberated from diapers.

Here's hoping for no regression. Our 4yo is having a moment where she gets to focused on things shes doing and waits until the last second to go pee, leading to accidents.

Waiting, fingers crossed, on my kids Pre-K status. Our state doesn't do universal prek. So the district were in does a lottery for prek. Which is way better then some towns in my state. Still, it could mean ANOTHER year of daycare 😭 or getting $1800 a month back. Should have known on Friday but I don't think they got to pulling the lottery on Friday. Hopefully Monday...

inshallah

We have means tested Pre-K over here. Not too helpful for a lot of families (including mine lol) but better than nothing.
