It's actually already in this state far better than quite a few "finished" games I've played.
So, yea, it's coming along nicely, even if slowly. Both games they are making I suppose as the singleplayer game is expected to release next year.

Wait did they actually make a game that works? I thought this was just an endless void of bullshit that people kept buying into.

I mean if you're actually asking seriously; there's nothing else like it for lovers of the space sim + MMO genre.
Maybe it is top of the pack in the genre; but by how much?
For how absolutely out of any reasonable dimension their budget and development timeframe is, what have they to show for it, that you cannot get from X4 or Elite: Dangerous or any Starship Traders or any similar game? I cannot imagine it doing every single appeal of those games better.
Honest question, as I do not like the super deeply simulated games anyway. I like my space sims at least 30% arcade-y and easy to pick up.
I wonder if those people spending so much on an on-line game will feel they have got their money's worth when one day the company shuts down and their digital purchases disappear forever.
The question is when that will be. If it has even half the lifespan of WOW I'd say we are fine
That’s how the majority of our gaming currently is TBH. For better or worse.
Tbh, a lot of people don't really care if they get their money's worth. Look at the Call of Duty franchise. A new release every year that most of the playerbase moves to, effectively makes much of the purchased goods on the older game obsolete.
Let's assume for a second the developer isn't corrupt and is only spending the money on actual development. Is it even possible to spend that much money making a game from scratch?
GTA6 is rumored to have already had more than 2x star citizens spent budget.
It's just salaries, so yes.
Anyone still giving them money, is stupid or ignorant.
For those who have been living under a rock, and are ignorant about the game: It's a crowdfunded game that started pre-production in 2010. Released early-access 2017/2018. Their funding passed $500m in 2023(over $800m now). They sold virtual ships for hundreds of dollars a decade ago, some of which are still not available. The game is still not finished, they're still selling ships and collecting funding, with no plan in sight to actually have a finished game any time soon.
A farmer from bangladesh could get more things done in that game than them.
at this point I have nothing but a feeling schadenfruede for Star citizen players.
Morons literally getting XP farmed by Chris Roberts.
I literally knew someone who spent like $30,000 USD on Star Citizen, Had almost all of the ships, and social engineered his way to a leadership position of an admittedly very small and inactive clan, he had all the ships, and only enough people in his clan to crew like 3 or 4 of them.
and because of his addiction, couldnt afford a place to live on his own so he had to share an apartment with like 5 roomates.
I spent $30 years and years ago. I’ve gotten hundreds of hours of enjoyment out of it. But you’re right that the more expensive the ship, the more people you need to crew it.
Scam Citizen.
At least Duke Nukem Forever eventually launched a complete game, and it didn't cost $20,000.
Got to keep that scam money flowing!
"in-game on day one."
HAHAHAHA! Day one.
There is currently a game! I hate when they drag this early release stuff.
I love how gaming scaled with the millennial gamers income, games are so much better with all this revenue
