just adapt Chuck tingle version instead.

what? are they afraid of billions in profits?

[–] [email protected] 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Irrelevant. If she benefits in any way, I'll have nothing to do with it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Anything with the Harry Potter name benefits her.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 17 hours ago

Yes, that was the point.

[–] [email protected] 16 points 2 days ago

"Please watch our show please watch our show please watch our show."

[–] [email protected] 4 points 2 days ago

The sad thing is that if she was racist, they wouldn't have her on board. But she hates on trans which they see differently

[–] [email protected] 9 points 2 days ago

"No, I totally am not lying to try and drum up viewership..."

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

except her series, her books are practically based on prejudices in a subtle way.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Don't know why you're getting downvoted when the most believable name she could come up with for the token character of Chinese descent in the series was "Cho Chang", whose only meaningful relation to the plot was as a shallow love interest until the main character got bored of her, and her idea of gay representation was "let's make the character I just killed-off retroactively gay, and scandalize it by making him fall in love with wizard Hitler, and let's do that just in time to show the audience that all of that character's brightness and joy was an act covering for the fact that he was, canonically, by his own admission, raising the main character as a lamb to sacrifice on the altar of necessary evil". Or that the money-grubbing bankers are squat little hook-nosed humanoids? Yeah... There's no prejudice there at all.

I loved the books as a kid, and I still love the first movie and a good bit of the world building, but come on, people.

[–] [email protected] 20 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yeah, don't care. Money will be going to her and that's the unacceptable part.

This will be one show that I'm not even going to sail the seas for since we know studios attempt to keep track of that as part of their watch metrics.

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

i heard she also funds terf groups.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Well, you dorks could have just adapted Susan Cooper's The Dark is Rising sequence.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 3 days ago

“It’s pretty clear that those are her personal, political views. She’s entitled to them. ‘Harry Potter’ is not secretly being infused with anything,” Bloys concluded. “If you want to debate her, you can go on Twitter.”

I think that's the telling quote from the article.

He is basically saying that she has nothing to do with them, and that anyone objecting should just fuck off and leave HBO alone.

He's right, in one respect. Anyone that objects should leave them alone. By not watching the show, or any other shows they profit from. If HBO is an island that demands insulation from their business partners, then maybe, just maybe, don't dismiss the people you expect to pony up for subscriptions. If you want to be an island apart, don't expect shipping lanes to land on your shores.

Thing is, he also states in the article that they've done business with her for over twenty years. So they know her. They decided to give her more money, and have her as a producer on the show. That's not an island at all. That's a party in Prague, celebrating with her.

They can't have it both ways. If they want the potential profits from the show, then they have to accept that they're working with an asshole. Same as if they tried to launch a Cosby show, or get Weinstein to helm a series, or hire the KKK to do a dance revue for their Saturday night streaming lineup. You lie down with filth, your suit gets stained.

And it isn't about her right to her opinion, either. She actually does have a right to it, as does everyone. But, when you use your platform to spew hate, even if it's only at one group, even if that platform has good aspects, you're an asshole. And she has consistently not only spewed hate, she's used her fame to push that hate in ways that I sure couldn't if I shared her views.

So, the burden is on them. If that's who they want to work with, have at it. But don't pretend to have some moral high ground, or some immunity to criticism based on that choice. Only assholes try to do that. Maybe that's why he's willing to work with her, birds of a feather and such.

To avoid tariffs they will contain HBO's own anti-trans views, and JD is scheduled to cut the ribbon or his own tie.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago

Please flop please flop please flop...

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 days ago

HBO can eat a bag of rusty nails. Rowling is a piece of shit, and they tacitly support her views by giving her even a single cent.

[–] [email protected] 26 points 3 days ago

Doesn’t matter. She has publicly stated that she believes people who continue to engage with HP properties are implicitly supporting her transphobic beliefs. Making more HP content is included in that.

[–] [email protected] 36 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

They'll still give her millions of dollars though.

[–] [email protected] -4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago) (1 children)

Oh yeah I'm sure, because media companies were so great at catching her insane Jewish caricatures. Watch the main villain's evil scheme include using polyjuice potions to change their gender, but since they aren't called out as explicitly trans it's "fine. "

[–] [email protected] -2 points 3 days ago

Did you even read the books?

[–] [email protected] 3 points 3 days ago

Honestly I wouldn’t give a shit about this show even if Rowling wasn’t involved at all and wouldn’t see a dime.

I barely ever liked the property before we knew how deeply she sucks and I sure as fuck don’t care about it now.

[–] [email protected] 69 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Won't include my viewership either.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 3 days ago (2 children)

Come on, not even pirated?

[–] [email protected] 6 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Piracy numbers are used as a metric to benchmark a shows popularity.

Plus, if you use any p2p platform to get it, you’re distributing the work too.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 3 days ago

Piracy numbers are used as a metric to benchmark a shows popularity.

I am curious, how exactly? Because of Trakt? Because if that is one way then I am part of the metric 😁

[–] [email protected] 19 points 3 days ago (3 children)

I'm ancient, so never got into it.

It's not quite the same thing, but I used to be a fan of Kevin Spacey, and can list at least five movies that he's in that I really like.

As it turns out, the excellence of his professional work is utterly replaceable; I haven't re watched any of his stuff, and backfilled any sense of loss with other content from other talented actors.

My advice would be to hold those memories fondly, but consider that chapter over. Moving forward, behave as though the author, and all her works died.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 1 day ago

This is the answer. I made the same decision with regard to Eric Clapton. Yes, he's a brilliant guitarist, yes, his music has moved me for my whole life, but he's just one guy. Turns out the world is full of amazing musicians, and new guitarists are coming up every year. I fell in love with West African blues, and so many other flavors. Painless.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago

i always felt spacey felt off as an actor.

[–] [email protected] 7 points 3 days ago

This guy gets it.

[–] [email protected] 45 points 3 days ago (1 children)

HBO Boss insists he wants your money and is willing to work with any shitty person to achieve it.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

You honestly expect corpos to have better morals than TERFs?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

most of them are probably supporting donating to anti-trans politicians.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

They are probably employing literal child and slave labor too. Donating to anti-trans politicians is likely the least of their sins.

[–] [email protected] 71 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Unless HBO donates 100x that evil TERF's royalties to a pro-trans org then it's a hard pass for me.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 1 day ago

even still,

one donation doesn't cancel another.

[–] [email protected] 125 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Yah but was she paid for it? Or will she receive money for it?

Fuck that noise, may all her works and resulting ventures come up penniless and be forgotten

[–] [email protected] 10 points 2 days ago

she wanted the original cast gone, because they have been protesting her terf behaviours.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (3 children)

How much money are anti-trans bigots supposed to have?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

if their main goal in life it's to use your wealth to ruin the lives of a minority, then they should have nothing at all.

[–] [email protected] 10 points 3 days ago

They deserve nothing. They wish to rob us of our dignity. I say we rob them of theirs.

[–] [email protected] 41 points 3 days ago (1 children)

If I'm being generous? Enough to provide themselves with food, clothes, and shelter, and that's about it.

[–] [email protected] 11 points 3 days ago (1 children)

That seems really generous.

[–] [email protected] 21 points 3 days ago

Unlike them, I don't believe in killing people just because of their belief systems or who they are. That said, I think food/clothing/shelter should be the baseline that every person gets, so I want them at my idea of zero.

[–] [email protected] 66 points 3 days ago (1 children)

yes, she's involved in the production and will definitely profit from it

[–] [email protected] 6 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Being a producer is more than just "involved".

[–] [email protected] 11 points 2 days ago

At a press event last year, Bloys told reporters that Rowling was “very, very involved in the process selecting” showrunner Francesca Gardiner and director Mark Mylod to lead the charge on the “Harry Potter” TV series.

https://variety.com/2025/tv/news/harry-potter-series-jk-rowling-trans-views-hbo-1236384958/

yeah, she's not just a producer, even - it's fair to say she's very involved 😅

[–] [email protected] 48 points 3 days ago

Just don't make a show about a TERF's shitty franchise in the first place?
