What are fixes/patches/mods are essential for a fresh up to date Sim City 4 experience in 2025?

The only essential mod is the Network Addon Mod.

If you feel like searching for all the dependencies, I can also recommend the CAM mod, this mod adds a lot of different building assets and enables more Euro or Asian style cities (high density). Makes dense skyscraper areas more viable. Setting it up is a massive pain as you have to go search for additional asset packs, although I believe CAM should work without them (but then you don't get the asset variety).

I also like to include different sized service buildings (e.g. very large hospital) to support the higher populations with CAM.

Honestly, you can just go with the Network Addon Mod, it is the only I would consider essential for everyone.

SC4 is a timeless piece of software.

I wish EA would release the source code. The community could really patch things up.

I mean there is even a 3D view mod for Simcity 4:

Thank you, I'll go with NAM & CAM (was great reading up on those two) I'll post an reply to this post once I've got some hours in. My last reference would be vanilla SC4, 15+ years ago. Exciting!

Enjoy! It's been almost 20 years since I played vanilla SimCity 4. NAM and CAM are excellent base mods.
