After making a big deal out of how my husband needed to listen to the alert and drop and cover, we get a tiny rattle about 15 seconds later… 🤦‍♂️

That “shake alert” seems cool. Is it fairly reliable?

Sort of? I rarely get them after the fact, and any time I’ve got one immediately before an earthquake started I’ve always been happy I got it. But the further you are from the epicenter the less accurate it seems to be; this was originally reported as a 6.0 on USGS before getting downgraded to a 5.2. If it had been a 6.0 it probably would have given us a decent rattle here, but since it was so far away and so much less powerful than they initially thought we just got a little shake that I never would have paid attention to without the alert.

I felt it in El Segundo. Some shaking, but not at a dangerous level.
