I was suspicious about the idea that cops were getting called over popcorn, and wouldn't you know it, there's more context:
In another video with police involvement, embedded below, an officer says that a group "body slammed" a theater employee. (Theater employees are understandably not loving the situation.)
At least one person has even brandished a live chicken in a theater at that moment.

Also the idea that large teenagers intentionally dumping whole buckets of popcorn is the same as what a six-year-old spills accidentally is just stupid on its face. If you think you're old enough to vape, you're old enough to not be an asshole.
Can someone explain the Chicken Jockey joke. I've been into Minecraft since i was little but somehow never came across this.
I think the 'joke' is just that it's a reference to the game. Also that Jack Black says it funny.
If you are unfamiliar with it in-game, it's that mini-zombies have a chance to spawn riding a chicken.
They're infamously difficult to fight.
It's from the movie. At one point Jack Black says "chicken jockey" in a very loud and serious tone, and it's exactly the sort of line a Twitch chat would latch onto.
Baby Zombies will jump onto chickens and ride them, it's pretty rare.

Who cares about it in this context? Is film maker supposed to think about some random Joe cleaning the popcorn after screening and optimise his movie for least popcorn spillage??
My local theatre had a group of teenagers throw popcorn and drinks at the meme’d scenes and basically destroyed the theatre for a TikTok moment.
They are ruining the experience for the kids that actually want to watch the movie. If all this stupid viral moment was people shouting “chicken jockey” I’d be indifferent but it’s way beyond this

Inglourious Basterds, The Departed, No Country for Old Men, There Will Be Blood, Interstellar, The Wolf of Wall Street, The Grand Budapest Hotel, 12 Years a Slave, Django Unchained ... fuck off with that excuse. And since you stopped on Star Wars, we can throw in several MCU movies (not all, but several). The cultural impact alone that Avengers: Endgame had by itself cannot be understated.
Beyond that, the sheer number of times you've defended these kids' actions, this director's comments... with "Who cares about it in this context?" like it's a new phrase you're really trying to get mileage out of... you're way too invested.

This Minecraft business is fine. It's no different than any afternoon kids movie matinee (ie: Paw Patrol; something that only kids are interested in). The mess that ends up on the floor is sold at a 99% profit margin and anyone who understands the finances of running a theater gives zero fucks about that product getting wasted. I can't imagine any upset patron getting stiffed on a free screening to compensate for it, either.
At this stage, theater owners are hungry for literally anything that sells tickets and puts butts in seats. Fuck it; let the kids have fun at the movies.
I'm sure the understaffed folks making minimum wage really appreciate all the extra income this film is bringing their overlords.
I wrote that as a former movie theater usher. I literally did that job. You regularly clean up giant messes. Kids matinees were always the messiest. That is the job. When you aren’t cleaning auditoriums, you’re cleaning toilets, the lobby, polishing the brass on the stanchions, etc. There’s literally no idle time being stolen by this work.
It’s fine.
If nobody wants to work at a theatre and its hard to hire, that is the prime time to ask for a raise tho
I don't know that it's hard to hire. You can't just not have income under capitalism, and you don't have a lot of choice as a worker when pretty much everywhere is offering the worst conditions they can get away with. They're more likely to replace you than give you a raise.
The theater owners also do not have to clean up after.
