For those without aircon:

β€’ put on a wet tshirt. For maximum effect sit in front of a fan.

β€’ open all the windows and blinds overnight. It’s supposed to be 24 overnight, so you want to get your house to that temp before the next day starts. Close it all up again in the morning

Source: grew up without aircon.

Can confirm wet shirt or bandana helps. I went a long time with no cooling

I forgot to freeze a water bottle to drink through the day. I'll put one in tonight and have it tomorrow.

Update:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGGFGGGGGHGGHHHH

Sincerely, all the rentals that lack aircon.

I've popped some cheap cool foods up in Food Australia :(

Edit: Wow, it got downvoted instantly.

[–] [email protected] 4 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Gave you up and upvote to balance it out.

Just reminded me of when as a kid we used to have fruit juice frozen as ice cubes. That was always fun, not sure how that goes these days with cleaning.

Also need to think about dinner. Not sure what to do for dinner.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago (2 children)

Thanks.

Hmm... does a budget charcuterie or crackers/veg and dip sound like anything?

Yeah don't worry about the downvoters. It might be because you posted it a couple of times. You only need to post it the once because it will show up on the home page anyway. (I think it's called a home page. I don't know. I'm not down with the right terminology πŸ€·β€β™€οΈ)

See.

Oh I put it in different subs thinking it wasn't the same people seeing it. But yeah, people might be getting a firehose of the same stuff...

Thanks, I'll remember that about the home page. This place works a little different to the other one.

I have Aircon and even im feeling a bit washed out and tired this afternoon. God help you and folks like you without Aircon, and we've still got another day of this!

Still, I remember not having Aircon growing up in hotter parts of Victoria and I haven't forgotten. At this point I'd look into taking alternative measures like putting towels in the freezer, putting big ice blocks in front of fans and so on.

Rental inspection on Wednesday. Possibly the worst timing.

Most of the house is fine, but my bedroom is a proper nest right now and also is the hottest room in the house.

I need to: Vacuum, rearrange stuff, find places to store things, clean my desk, hope to survive, and make sure the cat isn't too stressed by any of this. Which he will be because he's a big baby(like me)

Installed the Alfred security camera app on an old phone and my phone yesterday, and have been tinkering. I've found it's a lot of fun playing with these things. Now wishing I had kept some of our old phones.. Mr P went through a stage of dropping phones and smashing the screen but the camera still worked. Would've been handy to set them up as security cameras as well.

Ugh. Turned the portable to a less cold temperature hoping that would be more efficient to run and not get too cold. Didn’t realise there wasn’t a proper seal with the window. Woke up from a nap with both of us melting.

It’s now back up to normal trying to cool the place down.

Edit: the wildlife water is still out there. I just had the best idea. Why not weigh it down with a big chunk of ice? I can freeze it in a silicone bowl.

My CPU is currently idling at 66c, poor thing.

Mine sounds like a jet engine right now.

By the way I recently got hooked on a game called Balatro.

If you like roguelikes and poker hands/card play it’s highly addictive.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 8 months ago

Oooo that's definitely something I'm interested in! I'll check it out, thank you!!

I'm trying to finish my playthrough of Baldurs Gate 3 ATM, and my partner just bought Rogue Trader so I want to try that while he's at work. My PC is protesting presently haha

The Iron Claw was, in fact, an astonishingly good film.

9.5/10

Blah. My click and collect is ready earlier than I expected from Southland.

The question is do I do it today and now or wait till tomorrow, a public holiday.

Hmmmm

Better writing than the original, 10/10.

He has also written The Soddit, The Sellamillion, and The Matrix Derided. Reccomend those as well tbh. One of my fav parody writers

Lunch was a salad roll, dinner will be cold roast chook and rice salad. Watermelon in the fridge for snacks, enough of everything for tomorrow too. I appreciate past me for ensuring future me does not have to cook on these hot days.
