[โ€“] [email protected] 5 points 1 week ago

Open Mandriva would have been better here.

While I applaud the effort, the collage needs more NixOS.

Not spoken about enough, every chart about european digital alternatives hasnt included windows/macOS -> Linux

Aha! So there are the "non-tariff barriers" coming from the penguin island! This giving away an OS for free is so unfair to poor Microsoft and Apple.

I have a Panasonic Toughbook CF-30 with Ubuntu on it. IIRC, it's 18, and the specs don't support upgrading it anymore with Ubuntu. I was thinking of going to Mint, but I haven't really kept up with the various available Linux flavors, for the last few years. 2 of the 3 USBports have stopped working, but that's a $30 part replacement. The wifi see,s really slow as well, but I'm not sure whether that's a hardware or software issue.

It's not European, but antiX and by extension MX Linux (as @[email protected] also mention) are great for lower spec computers if you want something somewhat modern (Debian packages are a little crusty, but workable).

The 'MATE' edition of Mint is basically Gnome 2 with a lick of paint. That'll be worth a try.

Try MX Linux

Can we hate on Windows because of what it is, not because itโ€™s a US company that actually claims(ed) to be an Irish company for tax reasons?

I may be wrong or outdated on the country affiliation, but an everything past windows (arguably XP) deserves hate on its own merit.

Fedora is a product of an US company

[โ€“] [email protected] 15 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That's true but at least you can review the code and they don't collect data on you like microsoft does.
