"First they came for" Als sie kamen lit. 'When they came', or Habe ich geschwiegen lit. 'I did not speak out'), is the poetic form of a 1946 post-war confessional prose piece by the German Lutheran pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984). It is about the silent complicity of German intellectuals and clergy following the Nazis' rise to power and subsequent incremental purging of their chosen targets.

"They came for"

Much of it is systemic, it isn't even always about living human persons being the first / starting point of "coming for", but technology systems / venues of information. "I do not mean to imply that television news deliberately aims to deprive Americans of a coherent, contextual understanding of their world. I mean to say that when news is packaged as entertainment, that is the inevitable result."

"They" don't even have to be alive anymore. It can be systems of faith and values that people follow from thousands of years ago. Dogma itself can be the threat. People become less and less attracted to education, teaching, sharing, learning, study of goodness, empathy, then comprehension, understanding.

“Hitlerism was a mass flight to dogma, to the barbaric dogma that had not been expelled with the Romans, the dogma of the tribe, the dogma that gave every man importance only in so far as the tribe was important and he was a member of the tribe.” ― Milton Sanford Mayer, They Thought They Were Free: The Germans, 1933-45, published 1955

"The truth is, it's getting harder to describe the extent to which a meaningful percentage of Americans have dissociated from reality," The Atlantic's Charlie Warzel wrote in an article about hurricane conspiracies headlined: "I'm Running Out of Ways to Explain How Bad This Is." - October 19, 2024 - America's gullibility crisis, Zachary Basu

Malala Yousafzai is not dead today. Yet, everybody still grey-rocks what she has to say. I find nothing wrong with Malala's language. I find nothing wrong with her priorities and emphasis of what is important. Yet, everybody avoid her. Her words are just clicks away: https://www.goodreads.com/author/quotes/7064545.Malala_Yousafzai

Yet, every time JD Vance makes it onto social media systems: couch couch couch, every time Donald Trump photograph spears: orange skin. Every thing Elon Musk does... people flock.

There is no goodness being asserted. People are attracted to mocking Elon Musk and mocking Donald Trump and mocking MAGA and mocking GOP and mocking USA. They are not spending their free time promoting goodness in the face of rising bad.

I can't find anything wrong with Malala's words. The problem is people's attraction / where they turn their heads to gaze - into the shit producers. We hav a cult behavior problem. People are in cults of bad shit.

Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, people are flocking.

Malala Yousafzai is intelligent. She articulates issues clearly. She describes the problems of people not understanding each other, learning, teaching, education.

She doesn't shit-talk people like Donald Trump does. So she isn't nearly as popular as Donald Trump. She doesn't shit-talk people like Vald Putin does. She doesn't shit-talk human beings like Elon Musk does in favor of machines of xAI and Tesla motors.

Palestine supporters / Israel supporters. They do not want to face the problems that Malala is articulating and describing. They just avoid it by avoiding her words.

“I couldn’t understand what the Taliban were trying to do. “They are abusing our religion,” I said in interviews. “How will you accept Islam if I put a gun to your head and say Islam is the true religion? If they want every person in the world to be Muslim, why don’t they show themselves to be good Muslims first?” ― Malala Yousafzai, I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban. October 7, 2013.
