Is there a online shopping platform that is EU based? Have you used any or heard of cool related projects?

Also the platform being privacy oriented would be a big plus.

In the Netherlands Bol.com. In Germany Otto. Outside Europe from Japan Rakuten.

In Poland, Allegro is really strong, it's owned by european funds and it's already available in few more countries in middle-eastern Europe. Maybe someday it'll grow even further.

Still, most small companies would prefer you to buy from them directly.

Search ducks, and it is mostly an online marketplace - so most products are from China anyway. Basically European based Aliexpress/Wish/Ebay/Amazon.

I can't say I liked the experience, especially when they bought the second biggest pc part retailer, completely annihilated their website (which was one the nicest and most user friendly eshop websites I've ever used), and replaced the websites with a web page (or category) on their own website, which is borderline unusable in comparison while offering half the items.

cdon.com is the one that I prefer.

That sells what?

Many local shops have their own website, or they may have a shared portal between them. For example, the two nearby bookshops are part of such a portal (that is much larger than those two shops) where I can order any book at the exact same price I would pay it on Amazon (thx to our French law) and then go pick it up at the shop I selected (I suppose I could have delivered too, but I like to go there ;). For computer stuff, here in France we have LDLC.com and a few others (I use LDLC since they also have a few shops nearby). We have stuff like Darty.com or boulanger.com for appliances and small electronics. For art supply, the one I use the most frequently is https://www.geant-beaux-arts.fr/ but we also have quite a few much smaller stores around here, that also have an online store (and they're great too). The shop where I buy my clothes also has an online presence. And so on ;)

Also the platform being privacy oriented would be a big plus.

How would that be? I mean they would still need to collect a lot of personal informations to do business with a customer (bank, address, phone, personal mensurations, preferences,...). So, I wouldn't count much on that beside GDRP (which is European law, so any shop in the EU is expected to be respecting it).

More of a hobby crafts store than a big chain.

Some background, it is a one man operation and even though I have some programming skills I would prefer a platform that just works something like WordPress hosting, but European.

@[email protected] , this post made me think this could maybe become a category on https://buy-european.net/en/categories ?

In NL and BE there is bol.com

But watch out for the smaller items. They have decent prices on big items, but all of the small stuff is pretty hit or miss as far as pricing goes. Sometimes it is cheaper to go to the seller's own website and order (since bol does a ton of storefront sales like amazon marketplace or whatever it is).

Also Coolblue, Alternate, Megekko, and azerty for tech items

For home automation stuff, ROBBshop.nl and slimmedingen.nl instead of bol or coolblue.

Tru dat mate. I usually use http://tweakers.net/ to see who has the best price.
