You cannot trust anyone who doesn’t like marmite.

Toast, Butter and Marmite.

I always have a jar in the pantry but I rarely eat it these days. When I want the meaty taste but meat-free hit, I prefer miso.

My main way of eating marmite was on buttered toast. But I switched from vegetarian to vegan about 20 years ago and never found a way to replace cow butter and get the same dopamine rush.

I recently discovered Lurpak vegan spread which is almost edible. In general, I hate all margerine - yuk! - but this product is not too offensive. Haven't tried it on toast with marmite yet as I do not want to be disappointed.

One great way to eat marmite is on spagghetti - cook pasta as normal, meanwhile heat a bit of butter in a pan until melted, add dollop of marmite and a bit of boiling water, let it simmer until it emulsifies. Drain cooked pasta, pour on marmite sauce, stir, serve. Very tasty (and cheap!) I still do this after going vegan but use extra virgin olive oil instead of butter - you can get some very mild olive oil that tastes very buttery - 'gordo' olives are the type I mean (avoid the strong oils like Italian Tuscan). Be careful and taste the oil first - some 'mild' olives are so sweet they taste like strawberry jam which wont go well with marmite I imagine!

Marmite on pasta? Revolutionary!

can you still get the fabulous Marmite Twiglets in the UK? I live in SE Asia now, and marmite spare ribs are widely available and absolutely delicious, and cheap, so all good.

It's the official spread of [email protected]

Delicious. The "Dynamite" version is even better!

I tried it once about 20 years ago, thought it tasted of earwax. Haven't touched it since, but I keep being tempted to try it again because I hate the thought of not eating everything lol

I like the marmite corn snack from Tesco.

I love just a little on hot buttered toast. Too much blows my taste buds.

Love it, and a nice glass of Bovril.

Dude, I fucking love marmite. It took forever to be available in my neck of the woods, but I tried it and vegemite last year for the first time. I actually love both of them, but marmite is my preference for most things.

Marmite is more multiuse, between those two.

Currently, my three favorite uses are as an addition to ramen, on toast with a little butter, and tiny bits on crackers with peanut butter. Yes, you read that right. Don't judge me ;)

But it's a great addition to most hearty soups and stews. And it'll go with stuff like Brussels sprouts if you use it sparingly.

Edit: in case it wasn't obvious, I'm in the US. Which, I know, that's not what this community is really for, but have you tried espousing the joys is marmite to most folks in the US?

I approve of your versatility

The Lidl version is better. Spreads much more easily. The name brand stuff is like trying to spread pitch on your toast.

too much sucks, but a moderate amount is nice.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 1 day ago

This, exactly

[–] [email protected] 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm really very indifferent to it

[–] [email protected] 8 points 1 day ago

This is illegal, you have to pick a side.

I bloody love it I do

yeah nah you need your head seeing to.

neat on toast, that ain't right, it's only good for surfacing roads. that said, I do use it in small amounts in vegetarian casserole (think a quarter teaspoon for a large saucepan). Gives it a bit of a fuller flavour.

I use it in chilli and cottage pies as well. Just adds that little something that you notice when it’s missing.

Funnily enough, given your username, it's a great addition to a cheese toastie

Generally I'll just have it on a bit of buttered toast though

[–] [email protected] 4 points 1 day ago

I do that too! Sometimes I put a smidgeon inside the cheese toasties, sometimes I do a gentle dip with the cheese toastie
