Reading The Beginning After the End I'd probably be nobody special without abilities in a nation at war... Fairly screwed. Might be an engineer or scientist working on steam engines or trains.

Discworld isn't all that bad!
As long as you avoid "suicide" in A-M or any similar actions, you're good. There's the occasional attempt at dismantling the universe, but that happens in all multiverses if you think about it.
