Or maybe I haven't just seen this image yet? I've only gotten images where she seems to be wearing a grey jacket.

Just got a DM from her on Mastodon.

I feel so left out

I'm new here and I just received a message from this person, is this an inside joke between Lemmy users ? :D

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Yes, but also no. Its a spam bot that basically sends a msg to everyone haha.
We just laugh with it hehe

Oh I got this. I didn't even realise it was a scam, lol. It seemed to fit with the old fashioned internet aesthetic here. But yeah, this is why I don't share photos online.

Kinda off topic, but may I ask what client that is?

Ah. Sorry to make you repeat yourself then

god dammit, yall are making me feel peer pressured into unblocking her

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

I'd prefer if you keep her blocked and don't initiate communication with my girlfriend...

on a serious noteI usually just ignore these DMs and don't bother to block them because the person(s) behind the account just create more. Also, the spam seems harmless and quite amusing.

How is she "the fediverse chick" when she has a discord chat ?

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

This is actually a really good question that I don't have the answer to lmao

[–] [email protected] 9 points 4 days ago (1 children)

is that a bottle or a crack pipe

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

That's a bong. Note the curvature on the neck

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago

I’ve not seen this yet but that’s insane 😂

[–] [email protected] 14 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I wonder if the actual woman in the picture is aware of all this. Be kind of wack if it was just a hijacked webcam.

[–] [email protected] 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I doubt it, very little people would use their own image in a spam attack.

[–] [email protected] 3 points 4 days ago

You can be aware of it without being responsible

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 days ago

Don't encourage it, we don't want it to lay eggs.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

If you feel left out, she/he/the spam organization, also sends messages (same photo) under; missy29 prodajvodapavel (which translates to sales water pavel, in slovenian)

[–] [email protected] -1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

This still comes off as misgendering. Maybe don't do that. She makes it clear that she uses feminine terminology even if she is spamming people.

[–] [email protected] 8 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'll bet you 'she' is not one individual. This is a bunch of people scamming, that's been going on from many Eastern European countries for many, many years. Scams don't have genders.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

You are still making an assumption against the wishes of the person or people that indicated it. So what if she is lying? It demonstrates that respecting people's gender is conditional on being good.

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

Personally, I prefer ‘she/her/hers’ when referring to the likely fabricated character, and ‘they/them/theirs’ when referring to the real person in the image.

[–] [email protected] 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I didn't realize you could send or receive direct messages on Lemmy until I got sent this!

I recently got my third one... 😅

[–] [email protected] 6 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I got the first one yesterday and was mildly annoyed that you can not block the sender of a PM directly from your inbox - as you can with authors of post responses. Had to actually click that stupid profile (after reporting it) and block it from the profile page.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago (2 children)

I've read that it's multiple accounts across instances, so blocking would be tricky. I've had three so far and I keep getting different photos with each one, it's really weird

[–] [email protected] 2 points 4 days ago

That may be but my annoyance was with the lemmy UI not allowing direct blocking of a user from an inbox message - when it is possible by going to the user profile.

[–] [email protected] 5 points 4 days ago

Yup. 3, all different accounts and instances
