Since I canceled Claude (US boycott) I'm really enjoying https://chat.mistral.ai/ It might be a few months behind quality wise, but it is really fast, which is great for quick searches and brainstorming. It even has a canvas feature now.

This really gives me hope! Great french AI Tool!

Are there any concerns around using AI based in the EU over, say, China?

Say, could the EU come at the company with a warrant to access the data?

I’d assume you should be a lot better off with european GDPR law.

The EU's GDPR emphasizes strong individual privacy rights and strict data protection laws, ensuring users have control over their data. In contrast, China's approach often prioritizes state interests, with laws that can require companies to share data with the government, raising concerns about data misuse.

The EU is also developing comprehensive AI regulations, like the AI Act, to address ethical considerations and promote transparency. Meanwhile, China focuses on rapid AI development for economic growth, sometimes overlooking ethical concerns.

That's a fantastically coherent response so I appreciate you taking your time to summarise.

You know what it's like, you kind of feel you know the answer without facts supporting it so I appreciate you filling the gaps

Hell yeah, I was using gpt regularly, and having a french alternative was really uplifting news. First tryouts were pretty much showing that it's capable of everything I need.

The only thing I miss is that it doesn't remember conversations like ChatGPT. Otherwise Mistral is really good and fast.

Using the free version too until I run out of prompts for the day, works great. Actually I find AI kind of makes you lazy anyway.

duckduckgo is us but I've been using duck.ai which has been a good replacement and needs no account.

Just wish there was a cheaper "premium" option so I could support them without paying so much

Just tried it out for one of my frequent use cases: questions on configuring JIRA. Results are pretty darn good so far.

It's interesting to give it different scenarios then seeing what picture it generates. Like a lizard typing on a keyboard.

Same, i don't really use ai for any super complicated stuff, so I don't care about it not being the smartest, but it's so damn fast compared to other ais I used, it's very noticeable
