Do not segue into the climate crisis. do not segue into the climate crisis. do not segue into the climate crisis.

Yeah, if only something could be done about it.

...

DOH!

If you were here where I am, you'd absolutely think the weather outside is because the world is ending. The wind is blowing everything sideways and howling so loud that it's like being under a jet engine times 200. Is this the apocalypse?? Should I run for the fruit cellar?!

It's socially acceptable to talk about symptoms, just be sure not to bring up the underlying disease.

My special interest is organizing, so my follow-up would be "wanna join our union?"

As long as you don't explain how capitalism will inevitably lead to climate change and we need a new system if we want to survive as a species, it's small talk. That's the line I do not cross at work.

Nobody has any clue for a new system. Greedy humans always find a way to exploit it. We need a change in consciousness in humans (prioritizing the planet and human happiness instead of corporate profits) and that's not going to happen it seems. So I think we are probably doomed.

But maybe it's OK. We are here now, and even if we may not be here tomorrow, it's a worthwhile experience I think.

If only someone had an idea and would write a manifesto or something ...

Jokes aside, a more recent and more on topic idea is social ecology. It is easier to imagine the end of the world than the end of capitalism, but the latter is possible.

Yeah :) Will watch it, thank you.

Alternative chat: "I see the Supreme court is taking Trumps case". "Yeah, they are going to determine if he has the right to be a criminal and delay the trial until after the election". ".................."

It was small talk

The world will be fine, eventually. Human civilization is another story.

For me, the desperate, pedantic banter only highlights the 11th hour feel of the whole thing, and I tend to avoid these situations entirely. It's rough.

I talk like this to colleagues, seriously.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Same, honestly.

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Same.

Ones who are at least semi competent appreciate real conversations.

Be the change... Yada Yada

These days that is casual talk

[–] [email protected] 0 points 6 months ago

Yeah, I see nothing wrong here
