It isn't that controversial actually, seems pretty unified with only a couple people getting upset.
Idk there seems to be a big fight especially under this reply and more fights and upset around the comments. Maybe we set the bar for controversy differently.
Only a few people are actually pushing back, though. I wouldn't call that controversy, for such a context that is usually far worse.

While the stroad seem realistic, seeing a pedestrian carrying groceries doesn't seem like americana iconography.
It says Times Square. Manhattan is one of the walkable places in the US where carrying groceries is actually something you can see.

Liberals will kick and scream about the fascism of Tianamen without stopping to ask why the Tank Driver stopped and even tried to drive around Tank Man without success.
The idea that an American civilian could survive getting that close to a military vehicle - that this kind of protest wouldn't be used to justify his murder - is utterly alien to the Western brain.
So much of this image is pregnant with what Americans understand a US police officer would do to an unarmed protester. You'll never see pictures of what happened next, because it flies in the face of the narrative.
Look up the Bonus Army, one of many protests that were brutally stomped on by the US military and police.
