"Teacher shortage", " nurse shortage", "family doctor shortage", "shortage, shortage, shortage".

You know what these jobs have in common? They tend to be dominated by women.

And if childcare isn't available in Ontario, then women can't work these jobs. Surprise, surprise, you get shortages.

Ford is to blame for a lot more of these shortages than simply teachers.

You were close until you somehow came out with a gendered conclusion

The commonality is that they are publicly funded

Gender plays a major role in the shortages we're seeing: teachers and healthcare.

If we can't support mothers who want to work, we'll continue to have shortages. Men have never made up the majority of these jobs.

Or a relationship between wages and childcare costs that justify the expense.

It occurs to me that inexpensive, widely available childcare could be seen as a way to keep wages low. That wouldn't be the end of the world if the funding for the program came only from taxes on employers.

Who woulda thunk, the government hell-bent on destroying public services is destroying public services?
