I always think people give the US too much credit when they're like "we could end this with a phone call" because things are complex and the US isn't like omnipotent.
And then we just announce we're inventing a new port and fuck you we're using it.
I don't know about the the last part. Biden promised no US boots on the ground. I think the expectation may be for other countries to use it.
Apparently there are already boots on the ground unofficially. Saw it somewhere here on lemmy the other day.
The closest any troops are is the postage stamp sized base in Israel. Nobody but the CIA can account for what SOG is doing.
The thing is: We could end it with the lack of a phone call. All we have to do is nothing. Not send them new weapons, not show up to the UN and veto ceasefire resolutions.
UN resolutions are pieces of paper unless a power is willing to actually deploy power in service of it. I don't see Russia or China invading Israel, and nothing is stopping any country from throwing whatever sanctions at Israel they like.
Biden: Alright, you're going to stop this right now.
Netanyahu: No, we're not.
Biden: We'll withdraw all aid. We'll sanction you.
Netanyahu: Lol. You're going to burn your one "ride or die" ally in the middle east? The one that has nukes? We'll stop providing you with intel and assisting you in any "stabilizing" of the region. Maybe I'll give Xi and Putin a call -- I'm sure they'd love us as a friend. Maybe they'll send some experts to "inspect" some of these new toys you sold us, like the F-35.
Biden: ... shit.
If they were our ride or die ally they'd do something for us, like ever. What they're doing now is the opposite of "stabilizing" and the very fact that October 7th went off shows their intel isn't that good.
Israel is welcome to threaten the United States and find out what happens when the United States tells countries to implement sanctions on a rogue power. But they almost certainly wouldn't as Netanyahu would be deposed rather than make his country the next Cuba.
Lmao. This isn't a ride or die. It's an abusive relationship. We are more than capable of gathering our own intelligence and we have more bases in the middle east than we do professional sports teams in the US.
If they want to go with an "Eastern" alliance they need to explain to their people why they all just got cut off from Western banking, any visas were revoked, and their tech firms all just got locked out from the top secret networks they were hooked into. Finally they need to explain why Iran is looking at them with hungry eyes suddenly.
I'm tired of this idea that Israel is some special ally. Our last ally we let get away with everything hid our number one most wanted from us for over a decade. Now it's a Genocide.
They need us far more than we need them.
For some reason I don't think it's that simple.
US (and really everyone else): does nothing
Israel: genocides Gaza and claims it as new Israeli territory.
Months or years later: Israeli territory becomes a hotbed of revolutionary attacks by people that survived the genocide, want revenge for seeing their children, parents, spouses, friends, etc indiscriminately killed
Israel asks for international support on the “war on terror”

I mean that's not easy either honestly. We dont have "fold up" ports that can handle cargo ships, which is looking like what we need. Its going to take time to get this working.
What we do have though is a stunning amount of logistical expertise in war zones and more cargo planes than fucking god. We sure as shit can be doing no stop aid drops the entire time this port is being built, and we should be.
True, but our 300 or so c130s can’t fly international from the US straight to the Middle East. Granted there’s plenty of US airbases that are closer, but Air drops are likely to come from a naval operation as much as an air operation. Get a fleet positioned defensively with an aircraft carrier that supports something like the C2-A greyhound and then create a constant supply line for air drops while the fleet defends creation of a militarized seaport.
In the meantime, support more airdrops through https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Muwaffaq_Salti_Air_Base which I think is the best route for immediate and steady aid. It requires multiple cargo trips to get there and then to Gaza but then now we’re getting into Israel claiming Jordan is “providing support to their enemy”
I love how these plans still involve leaving bases from other countries when our veeeeery good ally Israel is literally right there. That we need to take these extraordinary measures rather than just say "ok, time for you to pay up for all the money and diplomatic protection" is embarrassing.
Well yeah of course the US wouldn’t do that, we’re already trying to build a military base in Israel. The US is absolutely complicit in what’s going on.

I’m in no way claiming that the solution shouldn’t just be an entire UN economic sanction against them, them being declared as war criminals, and then UN peacekeeping forces moving in whether they like it or not (which includes the removal of any US troops that aren’t part of the UN Peacekeeping force). But that’s clearly not going to happen, so my comment was explicitly about logistically how to get supplies to people who need them.
