Better use something that will keep the apps up to date. Some recommend Obtanium, I don't like it, it's not user friendly/easy but I don't know any better alternatives.
If you go to download things on OpenAPK, there's literally a button to download it via Obtanium. It'll create a formatted JSON file to import into Obtanium to download the app.
I like Droid-ify. It's better than F-Droid and includes more repos per default.

Or the izzyondroid repo in fdroid, which is basically the same thing as this, but in fdroid: https://apt.izzysoft.de/fdroid/
Yeah, that's the thing with unobtanium, it's clunky as hell, but it's really the only option for things that aren't in an fdroid repo directly.
