Zionism originated among Protestant Christians who wanted a solution to the Jewish problem as they saw it and to create the conditions for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ. It originally faced pushback from Jews before being accepted centuries later by secular and nationalist Jews, and only much later on did it become religious.
