Syria had Russian troops deployed, in the Middle East.

True I should have said MENA. Russia also tried taking Afghanistan but that did not go very well.

They own 78 ports in Africa over 32 African ports.

Are those military bases or simply ports? I remember China getting a big military port in Pakistan recently but they are certainly not present around the globe with their military.

Ukraine asked for NATO after the Russian invasion, not before. All they wanted was EU trade agreements.

Ukraine has started applying for NATO membership since around 2009? iirc. Which Ukraine is allowed to do. But NATO promised Russia Ukraine would not be joining NATO far before 2008. NATO then started applying Ukraine as a member which is when tensions started boiling.

Russia is currently conducting a blatant and overt misinformation campaign aimed at toppling democrating governments all over the EU.

Yeah fine but that is not a war. The US is also influencing and lobbying European politicians. And our amazing "ally in the middle east" is actively influencing many Western newspapers on a scale far greater than Russia.

2002, then abandoned it around 2008 to appease Russia. They did not pick it back up until after the invasion.
