Sure, but if the question "is this a class thing" can be asked it should be. Being technically correct but uninspiring, unconvincing, and mostly useless, is in large part why communism/socialism has no influence among the people in the west.

True, although in this case I seriously doubt it is a class thing because:

  1. The victim was a worker, plain and simple. Yes, better off than the average worker and probably closer to what people imagine as "the well-off middle class", but part of the working class nonetheless. If the attacker's motivations could really be considered a class thing, they were extremely stupid as they just killed a worker.
  2. Luigi is still in recent memory, so the framing of this article makes it look to me more like an attempt to bank on the victim's title sounding important, in order to get some views.
