My ex and I got on one of the first such maps back in 2005 or so. Having a young child, we dug in a bit.

The vast majority of offenses seemed like no big deal. We were taken aback by what counts as a "sex offender". Don't know how to explain that statement. Maybe the offenses were far less "dramatic" than we expected?

And keep in mind, scoring a sex offender is great for the local DA's numbers. Kinda like how we see bullshit terrorism charges.

Why is there such a big concentration of sex offenders though?

Because cities are concentrated places, and prosecutors are incentivized to put people on the list for minor offenses?

Isnt like, public urination enough to land you on the register?

Yup depending the city, state, and judge it can land you on the list. It makes it less effective in my opinion honestly. Actual sex offender i.e rapists, child molesters should be how it should be.
