Why, oh why, isn't it simply called the Finnish Bureau of Investigation?
Fins, explain!

It's Finnish name is "Keskusrikospoliisi", roughly translating to "centralised criminal police". It is "Suomen poliisin valtakunnallinen yksikkö", translating to "Finland's police's national unit"
So the "national" in the properly translated name (we rarely use direct translations as you can see from my translation how awkward English it makes) is the equivalent of "federal" in "FBI".
And you don't hear me asking why it's called the "FBI" instead of the "BI".
(their vests read "KRP", not "FNBI")
