Sonos says its new speaker has ‘one of most significant breakthroughs in a century’

This is a most excellent place for technology news and articles.
For that price you can get a decent surround sound system. Sound bars don't sound much better than the speakers built into the TV.
I don't use a sound bar because it's cheap, I can get surround sound for half the price.
I use a sound bar because I don't want speakers anywhere but on the TV, plus a subwoofer hidden away.
And it sounds waaay better than just the TV.
(Although the box said that it delivers surround sound, but in that respect it's no better than the built in speakers, as expected.)
You do not know what you're talking about. The $50 no name soundbar from Walmart might not be an improvement but soundbars from Sonos (and others) are MAJOR upgrades.
A surround sound system will likely sound better (again not the $100 combo pack from Walmart) but requires placing speakers in the proper places...which most people do not even do
I don't place my speakers in the right spots, but luckily (like Sonos and others) room correction software really helps with this. Especially after A1Evo.
Soundbars are a great solution really, I never understood the negativity towards them. It's all I recommend to my friends as I know they are unable to comprehend what a receiver is and then what speakers to get and let's not go into subs.
Even a no name sound bar from Walmart will be a major improvement.
Maybe... I've heard some absolutely awful soundbars. They trade sound quality for volume
Somewhat related: I think the Sony and Samsung ones are an upgrade but that's a low bar and they sound like shit for the price.
I haven't heard on all, but the Sonos Arc/Beam/Playbar are the only (all-in-one) soundbars I've heard that I would say sound great.
Why did someone downvote you? I don't understand Lemmy users.
Said by someone who gas never experienced a sound bar
I’ve had my Sonos sound bar for 5 years and love it. It puts out pretty great sound honestly
