How are student visa applicants supposed to share their social media accounts on platforms that haven’t existed in years, like Google+ and Vine?

People who don’t have social media accounts regularly get accused of lying by border agents and turned away. There were a couple such stories in the news recently about Germans who were denied entry due to not having social media.
