Life becomes so much easier when you remove those sources. I blocked both reddit and twitter (twitter is more of a soft block because I have time periods where it's allowed) and honestly, life is easier. For awhile I felt that lemmy was a safe area as well, but honestly it's starting to get overbearing here too. it's a strange game. The only winning move is not to play.

I will say, I felt the same way before I remembered that lemmy isnt all just one place, and there are other sites that provide different experiences.

I'll say that the content on my beehaw account is markedly different than my lemmy.world account.

Then why are you here?

like I said in the last line of the comment, I stated "starting too" It hasen't hit the limit for me yet. I expect it eventually will, in which case I will move on as the online world goes

unless you mean this community, in which case because I find the images posted funny/entertaining and it doesn't match the same atmosphere as X does so it doesn't annoy me

Bold of you to assume lemmy isn't full of mentally ill strangers too

Yeah, I've had to be really heavy handed in using lemmy's block feature to block communities and users. Also hiding posts.

There's plenty wrong in the world, but working yourself into fear/panic/anxiety over the things outside of your control doesn't help.

Then again, other people are mostly outside of your control and thats a good thing. Yet there is importance to get into conversations especially when facing disagreement.

Imo lemmy is quite good at controversy.

I still heavy handedly blocked a lot of anime girl communities

The best thing Elon ever did to Twitter was force me to login to see anything.

Made it a lot easier to fully stop using it.

hard agree, that combined with the VPN ruleset it has, made the transition to a timed block so much easier. I can tell myself "well I could override the block" but then my next thought is "well it's only like a 50 or 60% chance that page would work anyway so not worth the effort"

I did that for Reddit until I broke the cycle of abuse
