"Assuming your save file isn't very large or that you don't get unlucky, you're immune to anything bad happening" doesn't quite have the same ring to it as "you're effectively immune to anything bad happening" does
I would imagine it also creates a temporary file to replace the file, so if the pc crashes it reverts to the temp file. Would be silly to not have a safety net.
If the computer is powered off when in the middle of writing a game's current state to disk, that write is going to be incomplete and the state lost.
Sure, your save slot may not get corrupted and you'll probably still be able to load whatever was in it before, but no amount of temporary files is going to help you recover data that was never written to disk in the first place
Which isn’t an issue in most games since they usually have an auto save that triggers every 3 seconds. It would only be a factor in games where you can only manually save. And people know to save those VERY frequently for various reasons already.
Ah well if we're going to just make shit up to win an argument, I'll have you know that my uncle works for Nintendo and he said that's not true.
Other than fromsoft games, can you name a few that don’t have an auto save or a crash backup save system?
Sure a few games like Stardew valley, but that’s also part of the game mechanics.
That do it every 3 seconds?
Omg… a minor very obvious exaggeration that doesn’t affect the conversation at all….… it’s usually around a minute, or when an action is triggered.
Better hurl insults and make extremely obvious claims that mean nothing in response! That will show the class I’m smart! I was agreeing with you originally, but you’ve gone and made an idiot of yourself here.
Can you provide a few games, or no?
Buddy you might want to take a breather, this can't be good for your blood pressure
Edit: lol, they apparently went to my profile and downvoted pages worth of my comments because suddenly all of them have one more downvote.
The clitoris has 6000 nerve endings, and it's not nearly as sensitive as our little cabbage dumpling here.
Yeah, he did the same thing to me last night and got banned from [email protected] for it.
I think Lemmy should borrow the feature from reddit where if you get downvoted a lot, it tells you to take a break when you try to post or comment.
Frankly downvotes should be disabled by default, it's just not a good system and there's a lot of problems with it, and the instances that do have downvotes disabled haven't turned into the Nazi-infested wastelands where good arguments get drowned out by mindless garbage like many ardent downvote supporters seem to believe will happen.
I think it’s hilarious that you think I care enough about any of this to go through comments, look at mine, I have a few people that go and downvote my comments and anyone I engage with. The people in Lemmy are baffling when you upset some of them.
And no, I talked to the mod, i was banned “for not being awesome” for trying to have a discussion and it be derailed exactly like this and resorting to insults. Apparently things are more free range here, but same results when you use insults back, not surprising, I’m starting to get a very particular vibe from some instances and need to ban them from my stuff.
But am I the sensitive one… or are the sensitive ones that check their comment karma enough to notice, let alone actually care about this stuff….? Are upvotes and downvotes that important…? Some instances don’t even allow downvoting as well.
If you’ve seen a pattern of conversations you’ve been party to derailing and turning in to abrasive, hostile arguments, you’re the problem bro.
Well, I looked at your comments like you asked.
Dude, you're getting downvoted because your behavior seems to really often be legitimately unpleasant, unnecessarily combative, and abrasive, not because somebody has a grudge against you.
It’s usually when I’m having a discussion and someone tries derailing it with some BS or joke which happens far too frequently in some communities.
But yeah, I get it, people can be abrasive, not everyone needs to communicate the way you want them too either as well. Life always going to be how YOU want it to be and reality is usually far worse than what people want to make seem “normal”. Lotta people put on a face in public just to seem pleasant to people. It’s requirement for most customer facing jobs.
The dude was abrasive with me first, but fuck me I guess eh?
lol. lmao even.
So… you can’t tell a minor obvious non important exaggeration…. and you don’t want to answer a simple question? But you want to hurl insults… and want to do THIS when someone claps back at your stupid attempt… at whatever this was…?
Lmfao yeesh dude.
So are you going to answer the question? Or just avoid it since you can’t actually think of any that fit the requirement…?
