!egg_irl is for widely relatable memes about questioning one's gender or being an egg (a trans person in denial) as well as other eggy topics.

If you are looking for a place to discuss something specific to you or especially if you need help or are in crisis, we have communities and resources that can support you linked at the bottom of this sidebar.

General Rules:

  1. No bigotry.

  2. No spam, bots, or vote farming.

Rules on Content:

  1. No reposts.

  2. No personal-life posts, bingo cards, quizzes, selfies, "trans/not trans" lists, picrew, or non-memes.

  3. No visible names or usernames.

  4. Do not post or link to pornography.

Rules on Post Titles and Tags:

  1. Posts must be titled "egg_irl". An emoji or two is OK, but they have to be between "egg" and "irl".

  2. Posts that assume the viewer's gender and/or contain potentially triggering content must be spoilered and tagged at the beginning of the post title. Example content-warning tags that you can copy include the following:

    • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transmasc]
    • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem]
    • [CW: Assumes Viewer is Nonbinary]
    • [CW: Transphobia]
    • [CW: Violence]
    • [CW: Weapons/Firearms]
    • [CW: Disturbing Imagery]

    • [Nonbinary Meme]
    • [Gender-Nonspecific Meme]

Rules on Post Text:

  1. If possible, include an image description for accessibility.

  2. Add sources for art.

Rules on Comments

  1. If a post is tagged with a specific gender identity, keep the conversation centered on that identity.

  2. You must follow the Egg Prime Directive. You may not push or coerce people into identifying or not identifying a certain way. You must respect them as the gender they claim to identify as. In addition it is extremely in poor taste to make assumptions about other people's identities based on external factors, we understand it cannot be helped but it is best not to as it can affect the way you treat others in noticeable ways.

Recommendations:

We strongly encourage you to include your pronouns in your account bio so that others know how to refer to you without misgendering you. If you're questioning or unsure of your pronouns, that's totally cool—just say so.

[IMAGE DESCRIPTION] drowning kid + skeleton Meme

In the top panel a mother and her kids are together in a swimming pool. The mother with text "egg_irl" is holding up her daughter with the text "transfems" over her. Meanwhile her son is drowning while she doesn't notice him with the text "transmascs" over him.

In the bottom Panel a skeleton is chained to a chair at the bottom of the ocean with the text "NonBinary/Genderqueer", "Genderfluid", and "Agender" over it. Each label is colored in the colors of their own Flags respectively.

context: Back on the original egg_irl subreddit it was common for there to be a disproportionate amount of transfem memes versus the others and a lot of them forgot to flair as [CW: Assumes Viewer is Transfem] when needed and also a few were a bit targeting towards transmascs and masculine enbies i.e.

spoiler"get rid of your toxic, masculine mannerisms"
or
spoiler"transmascs have cute feminine faces"
. Some people even started saying Egg_irl is specifically a women's space and not a trans space in general.

I think we can pretty safely say it's not number 2. From what I found here transfem individuals slightly out number transmasc individuals and both out number 'gender nonconforming' individuals.

Of the 1.3 million adults who identify as transgender, 38.5% (515,200) are transgender women, 35.9% (480,000) are transgender men, and 25.6% (341,800) reported they are gender nonconforming

So more transfem individuals but not in the amount to explain the observed proportions in egg_irl.

Yeah I'm not super surprised, I figured their numbers were either equal or at least close to it. Even though there are slightly more trans women than trans men, it does make me wonder though why the sub was so overrun with them and why they try to be exclusionary to trans men (i.e. saying that being masculine is evil).

Also as a Side note, why is Gender Non-Conforming listed as trans there? Seems a bit weird since a Man assigned male at birth identifying as their assigned gender but choosing to dress as feminine doesn't really seem to fit the trans label, not saying people can't identify as trans if they choose to, it just seems a little strange in this case.

I'm wondering if it's supposed to be non-binary and whoever did the stats didn't know the difference. I'm non-binary and the number of people who assume that GNC, non-binary and androgynous all mean the same thing is ridiculously high. I've seen surveys that have gender options of "male, female, gender non-conforming".

Yeah I'm starting to feel like it was probably supposed to be NonBinary, though it's also weird to label GNC as it's own gender when it usually isn't, GNC is just when people don't conform to gender stereotypes, the person may be Cis, trans, isogender, GNC just means not following or having connection to the gender stereotypes.

Yep, exactly. But some people refuse to learn the difference. Especially given the number of people who justify misgendering me by saying "It's kinda hard to not see you as a woman when you're dressed like one" when 100% of what I'm wearing is from the men's department.
