Irony, because, as the article points out, the big chains flooded the pharmacy market, and killed all the independent pharmacies as designed.
Now they're closing themselves, leaving a vacuum behind, which will take years to fill.
Wal-Mart effect. I don't know if they pioneered it, but that's what it is.
