For anyone struggling here in the US, I highly recommend looking into alcoholics/narcotics anonymous or SMART recovery (a secular version of AA/NA). They're free! I know it's not for everyone, but just want to put it out there in case there's people unaware. You're not alone, and it can help to have the community ๐
I've considered checking into rehab recently or just a mental health institution, but the idea of the cost is enough to keep me pushing through without. I have experience with SMART recovery, though, if anyone has questions. They use evidence based tools with most of it available for free online. The workbook is like $10. It has made a difference, but it can feel overwhelming and takes time.

I asked my parents to get me evaluated as a kid and my mom said it wasn't real. At 32, I got evaluated and was diagnosed. Told my dad today and he's like "no shit? You got it from me" Well thanks for sticking up for me as a kid, dad lol
