If this goes through, we will have simultaneous genocides running in the third, second, and first worlds.

I have half a mind to crosspost this to [email protected].

I'm going to be doing a clean install of Arch Linux on an old ThinkPad tomorrow morning, and I'd like some suggestions for a window manager, desktop environment, or Wayland compositor.

It can have a learning curve, but I would like it to not have too steep a learning curve (I have been using i3 for a while, and I have just come from LeftWM which I configured to have i3 keybinds). Also, in order to make it fairly obvious to my peers that I'm using Linux, I'd like it to look nothing like Windows or macOS.

Preferably something light (at least out of the box). When I was using LeftWM, my RAM usage was often around 200MB. I recently did a system analysis and I have 8GB of RAM, but my CPU will hold me back. It's an Intel Core 2 Duo of the Penryn microarchitecture (x86_64-v1).

Any suggestions?

What themes/configs are you using?

Hmm. Perhaps it's time for !2meirl42meirl4meirl.

These speeds would have been considered pitiful in 1994, never mind 2024.

Here's a link: Invidious

I've heard and read recently about a warrant that shows that the US government is monitoring push notifications on iOS and Android. This is possible because push notifications mostly work remotely, using "push notification post office" servers at Apple and Google.

I am aware that certain apps; such as Threema, Signal, Proton, Tuta, and others; use their own servers for push, but not all apps will do this. If I was to run a deGoogled Android ROM or an alternative mobile OS, how would push notifications be handled? And is there an option that doesn't involve a central server at all?

A very nice list. I believe the entire Simple Mobile project has been forked to preserve the brilliant apps before their new owner completely butchers them. However, I don't have a link handy right now.

Then there's me, reinstalling the OS because it's quicker than installing the three months' worth of updates I forgot about.

That's nice. What web browser do you use?

When I went to the gender shop in 2006, I think I picked up two genders stuck together by mistake.

Possibly the best mistake I ever made.

Off the top of my head:

  • AsapSCIENCE (Both he/him) - A nice science channel run by a gay couple
  • Jaiden Animations (she/her) - A really funny storytime animation channel. Jaiden is ace.
  • Powered By Rainbows (he/him) - This is a queer education channel, run by Matt Haslam and often featuring his husband.
  • Squaishey Quack (they/them) - A classic gaming channel, focusing mainly on Minecraft and Pikmin. Squaishey is bi, non-binary, and married to Stampy.
  • EmKay (various) - This Reddit channel features several narrators. Lexi (she/her) is trans and lesbian, and Robin (he/him) is bi.
  • Vivziepop (she/her) - The channel behind Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss. Vivienne Medrano is bi.
  • Hank Green (he/him) - Hank Green runs what I would describe as a misc channel. He posts commentary, gaming, and vlogs. Hank is bi.
  • Thomas Sanders (he/him) - Thomas is one of my favourite personalities. He started by making Vines, and then moved over to YouTube and TikTok. He is also active on Instagram and Tumblr. Thomas is gay.
  • Jammidodger (he/him) - Jamie does mainly Reddit and reaction content, as well as LGBTQ+ focused stuff. He's also really wholesome. Jamie is a bi trans man.
  • One Topic At A Time (he/him) - A very wholesome Reddit and Gaming channel that ever queer person I know likes. James (OT) is not queer himself, but he is a true ally and uploads almost exclusively queer content (apart from his gaming stuff).

I also have a channel (RandomWolf) and I am non-binary and abrosexual. However, it is an archive channel and, as such, it is not even slightly LGBT-focused. Maybe I'll do a pride video at some point, idk.

Oo! I love this, especially the serif font you used for the UI.

I really hate these guys. The exam board is petty, the content is hard, and they do bullshit like this.
