The linked article in this post is from a pretty sketchy biased site, and you're right that they are using inflammatory language rather than accurate language. I'm no expert, but it sounds FB may have had a point blocking this account. I hate Facebook, but not because of this.

People are downvoting you, but you're correct. I don't work a particularly sensitive or interesting tech job, but we've had 2 candidates in the last year who were faking who/where they were. One had other people in the room feeding them answers. I'd expect weirdness in remote interviews as companies figure out how to navigate this.

That seems a lot more meaningful. GDP is going up, and most people are still feeling the crunch? That is a correctly identified issue that needs a solution.

If you do stuff that historically fixes a real recession, you're going to potentially make that problem worse.

So your argument here... is that you're not trying to remove the meaning from a word.

You're just trying to change the traditional meaning and ask people who use the word correctly to use a new and different word.

You've given me a lot to think about, thank you.

Recession: A period during which economic activity, as measured by gross domestic product, declines for at least two quarters in a row.

The first problem with what you're saying is that you think a recession is some kind of prediction. It's not. It's a measurement of the prior 2 quarters. By definition, it can only be declared for time that already passed.

The second problem with what you're saying is that you think it is a measurement of quality of life, cost of living, or wages. It's not. By definition, it's a measurement of GDP.

I'm not trying to say that I think the economy is good or that people feel good about it. Those are things that have words to describe them, but not the word "recession". By understanding the terminology and using the right words, we can all be on the same page and solve problems.

Or just use a different word that means what you're trying to say. When you remove the meaning from words, it becomes harder to solve problems.

A recession is a word with a specific economic definition and measurement.

It sounds like you're saying that if people feel like there's a recession, it should be called one. That's not a good idea.

I didn't want anyone to think I'm actually from that shithole state, Mississippi.

It's close enough that counting Mississippis is still roughly accurate.

(for non-US people, we sometimes estimate seconds by counting 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi... just because it's a long word that takes about the right amount of time to say)

I think you misread that. This poster's experience isn't from 2016. They installed a program called "Outlook 2016" recently.

heh. This reminds me of electric cars. I've been happily driving one for 9 years.

Lots of people online and in person tell me "Electric cars aren't there yet. They won't work." Well, you must be correct then. I just handed down my first EV to my kid and bought a second one.

I recently watched "The Program" on Netflix, about one of these alleged leadership academies that is really an abusive reform school. Almost all of them are run by an organization called WWASPS, and all of them are eventually shut down for abuse, neglect, and cruelty.

I imagine it is tough for them to open new locations in US States due to past shutdowns, crimes, and lawsuits.

A quick google search shows that this "Atlantis Leadership Academy" is also run by WWASPS.
