What search Plugins do you use for QBitTorrent?

Thanks for this very detailed description. Setting this up sounds a bit much to me, but still interesting

Is your laptop running a Server os or is it still usable as a normal laptop?

[–] [email protected] 1 points 3 days ago

Wow, I didn't know there was a jellyseer. Sounds really nice

Thanks for the recommendation. What hardware are you running docker on?

I'm wondering about what your piracy workflow looks like.

  1. Where do you find what shows/films to watch?
  2. Do you stream for convenience or download for superior quality?
  3. Where do you store media?
  4. What software are you using to watch it?
  5. How do you keep track of your watchlist, which episode you already watched or where you left off in a movie?

I have Netflix and Disney+ (through family) and it already drives me crazy to remember where which show is available, download quality sucks, shows get delisted halfway through watching them. Sometimes multiple seasons even are across multiple streaming services. (I was very sad before I discovered there were more than 4 seasons of Adventure Time). I even want to pay for the production of good media, but streaming services make it a really hard sell 🤬

I know that the -arr suite with jellyfin is a pretty nice workflow, but I'm not into self hosting (yet).

Google payed billions in fines for making chrome default on android and now has to ask which browser you want when you setup a device.

Microsoft on the other hand actively hinders the installation of other browsers. This is a huge lawsuit just waiting there.

I actually spoke with some who said talking about problems specific to men, is somehow anti feminist, because it puts men into a victim role.

Wow. This is another level of doomscrolling. Very educational though

Old Laptop actually sounds interesting to me, very nice form factor for my "inside the bookshelf" approach, but probably a lot of tinkering.

How do thin clients compare to a pi 4? I've heard most of them are worse in computing power and efficiency in comparison to the Pi.

Thanks for your detailed response. I thought about an old office PC, but I guess they're not even close to <10W idle.

Another quick newbie question: What do you need PCI Slots for? Many SATA ports for Drives makes sense to me, but why PCI

Hi :)

I've been playing around with a pi 4 for a few months now, but I want a dedicated home server now, since I want my pi to run HomeAssistantOS.

I'm looking for something that can store documents and photos (paperless and immich) and maybe run a small program like Ad guard. At first I just want to hookup an old SSD (250GB) and a HHD (1TB), but maybe I will buy a second one for RAID in the future. Power consumption at idle is really important for me (energy prices in Germany are really high).

As a beginner I find it very hard to find the right hardware, because everyone is recommending different things. (Slim-Clients, Intel Nuc, Raspberry Pi, Synology NAS).

I hope someone can recommend me something that will work for me.

Thank you for your super detailed response. That's a lot of information 😅 Talking about codecs is only applicable to torrenting, right? (I've never seen a streaming site talk about the codecs they use).

I don't really mind paying a bit (and hopefully supporting the creation of new media), but it's unbelievable that Disney+ butchers a lot of the most memorable Pixar scenes, with terrible compression. (When a lot of snow, confetti or other particles are on screen).

PS: I live in the EU, so I'm not signing away my right to live by subscribing to a streaming service. WTF is going on on the other side of the atlantic. I can't even believe what a capitalist nightmare some call the United States of America.

I have a Disney plus subscription through my family and watched a cool animation film yesterday. Sadly the horrible nitrate destroyed all the nice particle effects wich really took me out of the experience.

Are there any sites wich offer high quality streaming or should I look into torrenting for blue ray rips?

VR Porn (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

Can anyone recommend me a free VR porn website? (Download or streaming) I recently bought a quest 3 and I wanna try how that feels.

Marx's rule (lemmy.dbzer0.com)

First, I want to say how great it is to see success in a social media platform not owned by some giant cooperation. That said, right now we are at a turning point where we can still change the platform in major ways and I think we all have a shared interested in Lemmy becoming the best it could be.

Let's face it, Reddit had many problems even before the API changes. The toxic herd mentality, over and under moderation at the same time, small posts getting drowned out by already big ones and so much more. As you probably are already aware of, social media can quickly end in filter bubbles, extremization and bringing out the worst of the human psyche. These are not problems simply fixed by better moderation. Rather, these are problems resulting from the engagement driven design of most platforms (Post controversial statement -> many comments -> Post gets delivered to more people -> even more engagement -> ...) I want Lemmy to be a place that brings people together instead of dividing us apart.

Therefore, I wanna start a conversation on what design changes Lemmy should implement in the future to make sure the platform remains humane and everyone can engage in respectful conversations.

I think a good starting point are the recourses of the Center for Humane Technology, like their course on Foundations of Humane Technology

I'm looking forward to hearing your opinions and ideas on this :)
